As an irreplaceable scarce resource, cultivated land shoulders the important task of ensuring national food security. In recent years, the phenomenon of continuous occupation of arable land resources in China has become more and more common, and the conflict between industry, towns and arable land has become more and more prominent. At the same time, problems such as excessive use of pesticides and fertilizers, soil erosion, land degradation and ecological environment deterioration caused by the long-term extensive agricultural development mode have gradually become prominent.Faced with the increasingly serious shortage of arable land resources, the increasingly fierce emission of pollutants and other "roadblocks" that China has to face on the road of sustainable development of arable land utilization, the concepts of promoting the protection of the quantity, quality and ecological "trinity" of cultivated land and idea of "Clear waters and green mountains are as good as mountains of gold and silver" have been put forward one after another. It reflects the necessity of improving the ecological efficiency of cultivated land use and the sustainable utilization ability of cultivated land resources in China. Therefore, only by taking into account the non-point source pollution and carbon emissions of cultivated land, accurately measuring the ecological efficiency of cultivated land use and the total factor productivity of ecology, revealing its spatial and temporal evolution characteristics and power sources, exploring the path to improve the total factor productivity of cultivated land use ecology, and constructing a green and efficient development model of agriculture, can we solve the current contradiction between people and land.Effective means to promote the green transformation of cultivated land use.In view of this, this paper incorporates both arable land surface source pollution emissions and arable land carbon emissions into the evaluation system of ecological efficiency of arable land use in China, which is more in line with the actual production process of agriculture;and fully considers the technological gap in different regions, and adopts the NDDF model and MNML productivity index under the common frontier analysis framework under the perspective of technological heterogeneity to evaluate the1997-2019 China China’s arable land use eco-efficiency and ecological total factor productivity are evaluated;furthermore,China’s arable land use ecological total factor productivity is decomposed into technical efficiency changes, technological progress and technological gap ratio changes,so as to explore the sources of growth of arable land use ecological total factor productivity and make policy recommendations for each province to improve arable land use ecological total factor productivity and realize arable land green development;furthermore, the Dagum’s Gini coefficient method and kernel density estimation method are introduced to examine the regional differences, sources of contribution and dynamic evolution characteristics of the ecological total factor productivity of farmland use in China. Finally, the following conclusions are drawn:(1)Under the meta-frontier,the mean value of cultivated land use ecological efficiency in China was 0.3502,and there was still 64.98% room for improvement;Except for the eastern region, the ecological efficiency values of cultivated land use under the group-frontier in the central and western regions were much higher than that under the meta-frontier.(2)The annual average growth rate of ecological total factor productivity of cultivated land use in China was 3.96%,which was mainly driven by technological progress of cultivated land use, while technical efficiency of cultivated land use hindered the growth of ecological total factor productivity of cultivated land use.(3)The distribution of ecological total factor productivity of cultivated land use in China was characterized by high levels in the eastern and western regions and low levels in the central region, and the growth patterns of ecological total factor productivity of cultivated land use in the eastern, central, and western China were different.(4)The overall regional difference of ecological total factor productivity of cultivated land use in China showed an expanding trend.Supervariable density is the main source of regional variation, and the contribution of regional variation to regional variation is relatively small. The ecological total factor productivity of cultivated land use showed a slightly bifurcated pattern, and the internal gap showed a widening trend.
