| Armor is a product of military confrontation.Chinese armor manufacturing has a history of thousands of years, starting in the pre Qin Dynasty and ending in the Manchu Qing Dynasty. The development of Chinese armor can be roughly divided into three stages based on its material and structure, namely, the pre Qin,Han,Yuan, and Ming and Qing dynasties. From the perspective of armor reform, the Ming Dynasty was a turning point in Chinese armor manufacturing, succeeding from the Song and Yuan dynasties to the Manchu and Qing dynasties. Its armor manufacturing process was mature and complete, and the aesthetic and ease of use of armor achieved a balance and unity. The unique, diverse, and complex nature of armor in the Ming Dynasty was determined by internal factors such as vast land, urgent war needs, the development of iron and steel smelting technology, and geographical and climatic differences.Armor is a treasure of Chinese culture, but since the establishment of archaeology,it has always existed in the related discourse of ancient clothing and weapons, and has not received high attention. In 2017,the General Office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the General Office of the State Council issued the "Opinions on Implementing the Inheritance and Development Project of Excellent Traditional Chinese Culture",which officially included the production and restoration of armor. In 2018,the armor restoration technology was officially incorporated into Chinese traditional crafts, and the country began to attach importance to the discipline construction and construction of armor making techniques. From the current perspective,as a relatively short established research category, ancient Chinese armor has made certain breakthroughs in the study of armor in the Tang,Song, and Qing dynasties in recent years, but the archaeological study of armor in the Han,Ming, and Yuan dynasties is still in the primitive accumulation stage, requiring in-depth verification and exploration. Therefore, from the perspective of design,I strive to reflect the complete manufacturing process and subtle modeling changes of armor in the Ming Dynasty, taking the military situation, economic development, and cultural exchange of the Ming Dynasty as the starting point. From the perspective of design,I will continue to deepen the theoretical research on armor in the Ming Dynasty in China. This article mainly conducts in-depth research on the modeling and technology of armor in the Ming Dynasty through the following four parts:The first part explores the main factors that influenced the armor revolution in the Ming Dynasty, elaborating on the economic development of China’s Ming Dynasty, the changes in the situation, cultural exchanges, and military development worldwide, and deeply analyzing the main reasons for the tremendous changes in armor during that period. The second part explores the modeling classification and modeling characteristics of armor in the Ming Dynasty. This part includes two aspects, namely, the overall analysis and partial analysis of armor in the Ming Dynasty.Based on the two-piece set proposed by Professor Li Yonghua in the Song Dynasty,it explores the shape of armor in the Ming Dynasty in depth, including the classification basis of armor, the connection method of armor, the overall style, and the partial shape and decoration research. The third part explores the material and technological characteristics of armor in the Ming Dynasty.Firstly,it focuses on the analysis of the material of armor in the Ming Dynasty, including two aspects: metal and non-metal,and secondly,it analyzes the decorative technology of armor in the Ming Dynasty. This section summarizes the technological characteristics of armor in the Ming Dynasty through historical data and related physical preservation, reflecting the richness of armor manufacturing and decoration techniques in the Ming Dynasty. The fourth part is a discussion of the value of armor attributes for modern society. It makes inferences and reflections on the differences between armor culture and symbolic significance in the Ming Dynasty of China. The concepts of armor preservation around the world. It also has a perspective on the current restoration process of armor and the recognition and reapplication of armor elements in modern media. |
