The burning of fossil fuels produces plenty of carbon dioxide.Studying the impact of fossil energy trade on carbon emissions is conducive to improving the environmental quality of all countries. This thesis constructs an international energy trade network based on the emergy theory and the complex network method, and analyzes the characteristics of the international energy market and the role and status of various countries in the market from the perspective of the network.Based on the method of panel regression, the impact of energy trade on carbon emissions is further systematically discussed from the perspective of trade volume and trade relationship, with the following conclusions obtained.First, the analysis of the overall network characteristics shows that the international energy trade network is relatively sparse, but it gradually becomes active over time.In addition, the international energy trade network has the scale-free characteristics and the small-world characteristics. The analysis of individual network characteristics shows that different countries play different roles in the international energy trade network, and China,America and Russia have strong comprehensive strength.Countries should recognize their respective weaknesses, take advantage of their own strengths, and make them more indispensable in the global energy market.Second, the regression analysis results show that from the perspective of trade volume, there are three significant environmental effects of energy trade on carbon emissions, namely, scale effect, composition effect and technique effect.Expanding the economic scale and increasing the proportion of industrial added value are harmful to the environment, while promoting technological progress has a positive impact on the environment. Moreover, the impact of trade volume on carbon emissions is more significant when considering the interaction of trade strength and three environmental effects.Third, the regression analysis results show that from the perspective of trade relations, countries that are closer to the important countries of the energy market will suffer from more pollution, and concentrating the trade volume on a limited number of countries will destroy the environment. In order to protect the environment, countries with different economic levels need to pay attention to different trade patterns. For high economic-level countries, concentrating the trade volume on several finite countries will destroy the environment;low economic-level countries that are proximal to the important countries of the energy market will experience an increase in pollution.
