BaiNa contains two meanings, one meaning is a narrow perspective, especially a traditional Chinese fabric made of fragmented fabrics;Another meaning is a broad perspective, which refers to a design method that is made of fragmented materials into a whole. This paper is dedicated to analyzing the use of Baigang as a design technique in traditional Chinese Baigong fabrics and modern fiber art,and attempts to inject inspiration sources into the current fiber art design through the analysis and induction of extensive knowledge. The main part of the thesis mainly analyzes the works involving the design techniques of baiko in traditional baigon fabric and modern fiber art from the aspects of cultural connotation and formal aesthetics.Among them, traditional baigong fabrics contain rich and long-standing decorative wisdom in terms of historical and cultural connotations or formal aesthetic characteristics; The works involved in modern fiber art are mainly influenced by Western modern art and cultural trends in concept and form. Therefore, the inheritance of Baigang in modern fiber art design mainly refers to the introduction of traditional Baigang formal aesthetic characteristics that emphasize geometry and symmetry,as well as the cultural connotations of material conservation, health care and fashion in modern fiber art design; The transformation of Baigang in modern fiber art design mainly refers to the creative practice of using Baigang techniques in the form of irregular collage into modern fiber art design,as well as the existence experience of modern people such as fragmentation and surreality. The foothold of the thesis is the application of Baigang in modern fiber art design, that is,the practice of modern fiber art design using Baigang as the technique and fabric as the material. In the author’s view,as a contemporary Chinese designer,he needs to consciously base his design on the modern cultural context, and in the current cultural context,it is characterized by the interweaving and integration of value needs that embrace globalization and develop locality. This means that when we approach the design practices that this article points to,we need to incorporate the inheritance of the tradition and the influence of modern art into our research horizons.Compared with previous research on baigon that almost all revolved around the narrow meaning of traditional baigong, this article’s discussion of baigon opens up a new perspective, which can deepen our thinking on issues such as history and modernity, local and world, inheritance and innovation in fiber art design.
