In recent years,a number of architects, artists or developers have dived into the boom of rural construction by providing design or developing properties.Against that background, the rural areas featuring agricultural and industrial production, which account for the majority of suburbs in China, have long been ignored in the vision of those dealing with rural construction. Those rural areas are often viewed as short of the so-called historical and cultural accumulation, owing to the lack of references and studies on the particularity of rural issues and the complexity of agricultural production. The rural areas of China’s 1.5 industry,as typically production-oriented villages, combined the industrialization experience of foreign nations, their green technologies and China’s household production model and have distinctive advantages in promoting economic development, extending industrial chains, narrowing the gap between urban and rural areas and maintaining the rural population structure.Following this line of thinking, this article begins by studying Shouguang mode,an example of 1.5 industrial rural areas, and then sums up the status quo of rural production and inhabitation, then considers how space responds to the economic and social changes that affect the rural industry, social management, and social relations. This paper will cut in the issue of rural area upgrade from both the macro perspective of village planning and the micro perspective of house design.By studying the correlations among "industrial upgrade and development","community services and management" and "village environmental construction" on the basis of respecting rural customs in agricultural production and storage and in people-to-people relations,it seeks to summarize the underlining design factors and specific indicators in rural upgrade. This paper tries to break through the previous practice of judging rural area construction by style and school of design, and endeavors to explore the construction of rural villages that develop along with agricultural modernization and truly belongs rural residents.
