A Study On The Formation And Evolution Of The Clan Halls In Modern Xiamen From The Perspective Of Urban Morphology

Clan Hall,which often can be found in the China southern coastal areas,its appearance is highly related with increasing urbanization rate,higher levels of emigration and multiple emerging social factors.Compared with Ancestral Hall,Clan Hall has its outstanding value in terms of architectural scale,construction art and technology,and derived a series of functional urban public activities.This not only illustrates the transformation of clan relationships in organization,system and management,also reflects the transition of urban-rural relationships and urban modernization.Nowadays,only few stuides on the systematic between the Clan Hall and the Ancestral Hall has been accomplished,the unique architectural characteristic value of the Clan Hall is yet to be explored.The project in this paper is mainly focus on modern Xiamen Clan Hall by several steps,firstly,recognizing the essence of urban structure through the collection of historical materials,field investigation and other related methods.Secondly,with the guidance of urban morphology,an analytical framework is constructed to analyze the process of the formation and evolution of the Clan Hall in this city to find and explain the characteristics and value of urban modernization,providing guidance for the preservation and renewal of the special urban architectural heritage.By analyzing the formation and evolution of the modern Xiamen Clan Hall from the perspective of urban morphology,the relationship between the Clan Hall and the development of modern Xiamen city space has been preliminarily drawn.Furthermore,the characteristics of urban modernization in the aspects of site selection,plane form,building type and building function of modern Xiamen Clan Hall has been elucidated.In the process of urban construction,the modern Xiamen Clan Hall was an urban activity space created by immigrants from southern Fujian with the language of the clan.Its development context and process characteristics have enlightenment significance for the preservation and renewal of contemporary urban architectural heritage.Especially when the contradiction between the protection of contemporary urban heritage and the process of urbanization is difficult to reconcile,the wisdom of the evolution of the clan hall inspiring people on multiple aspects.
