Research On The Miniaturization Design Strategy Of Urban Public Librarie

The public library plays the central part of culture and education in the city,which serves the function of transmitting cultural education,collecting data,decorating the public environment,and meeting people’s mental and cultural requests.It is more than just a place to store books;it also witnesses the communication between people and books,and between people.Therefore,the development of the library has been keeping pace with the diversity of people and society.Nowadays,with the advancement of technology and changes in reading methods,the public’s reading needs and characteristics have undergone significant changes.People in cities are eager to get closer and have more convenient access to public reading resources,so they have new requirements for the way to obtain public reading resources.At present,most of the urban public libraries providing public reading services obtain information and cultural resources by the traditional means of borrowing and reading,which is not attractive though.At the same time,it is necessary to make reservations in advance for reading and study in the library.The seating capacity is far from satisfactory to meet the needs of the public,In addition,what is of difficulty to perfect is the service of public reading resources and institutes around,thus making it impossible to increase the rate of use and availability of the public library.Therefore,it is of high priority to update and optimize the public library.Indeed,it is an inevitable trend for the future development of urban public libraries to miniaturize public libraries in cities,increase their number,density,volume and scale,and realize the ubiquity and popularization of the spatial environment.With the ubiquitous development of public libraries,urban residents’ cultural exchanges can be enhanced.Meanwhile the construction of a public library will promote the development of entertainment,thus improving the quality of residents’ life and all people’s cultural level.The study targets at the miniaturization design strategy of public libraries in the city,sorts out relevant academic literature reviews of achievements at home and abroad,and then investigates and analyzes the empirical cases of micro-libraries that have been built in the city.Making the space ubiquitous brings about the concept of ubiquitous space that is applied to urban public libraries.The core measure of the ubiquitous public library model is to increase the number of public libraries,reduce the volume of public libraries,make libraries ubiquitous in the urban environment,and then offer the concept of miniaturization of urban public libraries.Starting from the development of the new social situation and the needs of real users of the library,and mainly referring to environmental psychology and ergonomics as theoretical foundations,the author strives to analyze the different aspects of urban space environments.Micro-libraries are divided into four categories,namely,social micro-libraries,transportation micro-libraries,green micro-libraries and community micro-libraries via different analyses of urban space environments.The author explores and analyzes the design strategy of micro-libraries on the basis of satisfying the five principles of sense of scale and comfort,extensibility and versatility,publicity and openness,green ecology and sustainability,and convenience.The author mainly carries out design research from three key aspects,which are micro-library building appearance,indoor functional space and public service facilities.Based on summarization and analysis,the author puts forward a three-direction design strategy of miniaturization of public libraries.In the appearance of the building,we should pay attention to the cultural atmosphere,enhance the integration with the environment,and highlight the innovation and characteristics of the appearance;the new space should be considered in the indoor functional space.Regarding the functional space,new space design,multi-space integration design,and virtual ubiquitous space design should be considered;public facility furniture design should involve the integrity of the environment,and special space facilities should engage special design.Regarding facility materials,it is of significance to recycle natural materials to satisfy the standards of green ecology,and the mobility and changeability of furniture.Finally,social research on the large public libraries in Xi’an city and the emerging micro-libraries are conducted.Through questionnaire surveys and field interviews,we can deeply understand the needs and opinions of construction from the users of micro-libraries,thus providing the author with concrete field data for designing micro-libraries.The research results are beneficial to the current situation of urban public libraries and the development of micro-libraries.To a certain extent,the proposed design principles and strategies are of practicability,which can be used for the construction and design of urban micro-libraries and micro-books,and serve as reliable reference to the future development of the museum.
