As a form of residential settlement rich in social history and culture, the traditional village settlement has been playing an important role in the long history of development since the agrarian era,as a material home space and a material carrier of spiritual civilization. However, with the rapid development of industry and urbanization, traditional settlements are facing the impact of urbanization and are gradually becoming extinct;in recent years,as China has entered the path of rural revitalization, the conservation of many traditional settlements has been moving towards industrial transformation and revitalization. Therefore, conservation and sustainable development should be implemented simultaneously in traditional settlements through the development of applicable revitalization means and regeneration strategies. This paper combines the policy context of rural revitalization with the design and study of strategies for conserving and re-living traditional Tujia settlements.Through the elaboration of relevant theories and the summary of the current situation of domestic and international research,as well as the specific analysis of relevant typical cases at home and abroad, learning from the outstanding theoretical achievements and practical research experiences, based on the primary and secondary relationship of each step in the process of conservation and re-living,and then systematically combining the theories of traditional settlement conservation, heritage dynamics theory and sustainable development theory ideas,in the case of Huanglong Village of Shijia Town, the architecture and other resources within its site are analyzed and positioned. In the process,we fully recognize the importance of the traditional settlement conservation and re-living strategy it is recognized that the traditional settlements of ethnic minorities contain special characteristics of regional culture and that the use of hierarchical conservation and a ’top-down’ model for different levels of conservation and revitalization, and the full mobilization and integration of resources within the settlements,is the basis for conservation and revitalization. This paper collates the types of resource elements in the traditional village of Huanglong and the revitalization methods among them, analyses the village’s location, the internal layout of the courtyard, and the architectural features, and renovates traditional dwellings and standardization of new ones.physical spaces such as landscapes, and interspersing the spaces with the necessary public infrastructure.Through the study of traditional settlement conservation, heritage dynamics and sustainable development theories, and the exploration of the re-living model of traditional settlements of China’s ethnic minorities, this thesis applies the relevant theories and practical experiences to a specific regeneration design practice project of the Tujia traditional settlement in Huanglong Village,Shijia Town,Chongqing,in an attempt to explore a comprehensive and feasible strategic approach to the conservation and re-living of traditional settlements.
