The dynamic changes in the running time between stations and the dynamic demand for passenger flow are the main factors leading to fluctuations in headway between continuously running buses, that is,the occurrence of bunching and large interval phenomenon of the root causes, which not only extend the average waiting time for passengers, but also make the capacity of the relatively backward bus in two continuously running buses underutilized, will cause losses to passenger travel and bus company operations. Therefore, maintaining a balanced and stable headway in the bus system is essential for urban bus operations. The first chapter analyzes the current situation of motor vehicle and car ownership, investigates passenger satisfaction with various service indicators of public transportation, and explains the reasons for the declining attractiveness of public transportation travel modes to passengers and the necessity of vigorously developing public transportation;briefly describes the factors leading to the low punctuality of bus operation, and paves the way for subsequent introduction of the generation and equalization methods of bunching and large interval phenomenon.Chapter two studies how to equalize the headway of buses when bunching occurs during bus travel.Based on the single control point model, considering that some bus routes are too long, establishing two control points model in order to keep the headway equilibrium as much as possible during the whole section of bus operation,as well as to make the disturbed headway return to equilibrium faster;the validity of the model is verified by numerical simulation, and determine the influencing factors of the control parameter value.Chapter three analyzes three situations that are easily cause large interval during bus operation and propose optimization methods.During times of high road traffic flow, using the bus signal priority model to reduce delays generated by buses at intersections;the number of buses stop at busy stations is large, adding station berths and establishing bus stop queuing model can reduce station delays generated during bus queuing for inbound service;based on the large passenger demand at busy stations,it is proposed to use common buses to guide the dispersal of passenger flow, reduce passenger waiting time at stations and bus service time at stations, achieve the goal of shortening large interval and balancing the headway of the system.Using the microscopic traffic simulation software VISSIM to verify the effectiveness of the proposed optimization methods for equalizing the headway of bus system. The results show that the bus signal priority strategy can reduce the number of stops and intersection delays during bus operations, the addition of bus parking spaces can reduce delays caused by buses waiting in line for service at stops, and adding common buses at busy stops can disperse passenger flow and reduce bus stop delays caused by too many riders at stops. All of the above can improve the undesirable fluctuations in the headway of bus operations, improve the efficiency of bus operations, punctuality and quality of service, and increase the attractiveness of public transport modes of travel.
