In the rapid development of China’s urbanization, the urban scene of "a thousand cities" has become widespread with the development of the construction industry, and the rural architecture has been affected to different degrees while developing. At the same time, the development of counter-urbanization also makes the relationship between the countryside and the city change. As a result, the renewal and renovation of rural architecture face huge development opportunities and challenges of cultural inheritance. Therefore, this paper aims to explore how the transformation of rural architecture can adapt to the needs of modernization while maintaining the inheritance and innovation of traditional culture, using architectural semiotics theory as the cornerstone. At the beginning of this paper,we use theoretical research method and analogical analysis method to sort out the research background and current situation of rural architecture renovation. It also summarizes and summarizes the development history under the theory of architectural semiotics and the interpretation of the content of Morris’ semiotics theory through a lot of literature reading to provide a strong theoretical support for the thesis. At the same time, the conceptual scope of rural architecture is defined to clarify the research object.Secondly, the deep relationship between Morris’ semiotic theory and rural architecture is analyzed, mainly including:analysis of the symbolic composition of rural architecture based on the level of semantics;performance of the symbolic relationship of rural architecture based on the level of semantics;interpretation of the influence of rural architecture based on the level of semantics. In turn, the design strategies of rural architecture renovation based on architectural semiotics theory are integrated: First, spatial symbol reconstruction:according to the demand and attribute characteristics, the spatial symbols are integrated through the techniques of spatial pattern transformation, single space superposition and composite space organization, and the spatial symbols are transformed functionally;second, structural symbol reconstruction: according to the functional attributes, the building structure is refined through the techniques of parent superposition, parent release and parent strengthening.Third, the reconstruction of formal symbols: through symbol abstraction, form decomposition, color reduction and material replacement, the original architectural symbols such as doors, windows, openings and decorative elements are refined, split and deformed,or emphasized in the transformation of the relationship at the bottom of the figure, and the fragments of traditional architecture are projected into the renewal of architecture according to the aesthetics and appreciation of contemporary people. Finally,we combine the actual case: the renovation design of the granary in the ancient town of Fengsheng, and make a reverse argument and reflection on the design strategy of this paper.By exploring the characteristics of traditional rural architecture and thinking about the renovation of modern rural architecture,we open a healthy and interactive dialogue with the users of the building, and explore the renewal strategies and ways for the heritage of traditional rural architecture in China. The symbolization of architecture awakens people’s awareness of the laws and phenomena in architecture,so that we can be alerted when shaping space and macro forms. The dismantling of rural architecture from a dynamic perspective combines rural architecture itself with its formation, evolution and social influence,so that the renovated buildings are spatially adapted to the existing social life and production activities, structurally safer and more stable, and formally continue the overall appearance of the countryside and inherit the village culture, providing new ideas for the study of the renovation design of rural architecture.
