Based on the model of occupational competence, this study explores its effective application in the cultivation of talent in unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV)application technology, aiming to provide a project-based teaching method guided by occupational competence.Firstly, the current status of UAV application technology courses is comprehensively analyzed, and targeted solutions are proposed. Then, the development trend of the UAV industry is thoroughly analyzed, with emphasis on the conflict between the perfection of the UAV occupational classification standard and the discrepancy between industry demand and talent development standards. On this basis,a model of occupational competence for talent in UAV application technology is constructed, and the elements of the model are supplemented and improved by behavioral event interviews and Delphi expert consultation. Finally, the characteristic elements of the model of occupational competence for talent in UAV application technology are sent to practitioners and industry experts in the form of questionnaires, and data is collected and analyzed through three rounds of exploratory factor analysis.Combining the learning characteristics of vocational school UAV students and the results of factor analysis,a competency index system is constructed that is suitable for vocational school-level talent in UAV application technology, and a weight measurement scale for competency features in various dimensions is generated using entropy method to provide evaluation criteria for subsequent project-based teaching.Guided by the occupational competence model, the "Flying Campus" series of teaching projects in UAV application technology were designed, which include four instructional units:campus aerial photography, campus inspections, campus crop protection, and campus surveying and mapping. In this process, related concepts such as project-based teaching method, collaborative learning theory, constructivist learning theory, and pragmatic education theory were fully applied. To verify the effectiveness of the project-based teaching practice, this study adopted a quasi-experimental research method to compare and analyze the development of occupational competence between the experimental group and the control group students. The research results showed that the model of occupational competence played a significant role in the cultivation of talent in UAV application technology and could effectively enhance students’ competency level, thus improving the satisfaction of employers. This study provides new ideas and practical experiences for vocational education in the field of UAVs,and offers some theoretical support and reference significance for relevant teaching research and curriculum reform. However, this study has some limitations in sample size, the authenticity of project implementation environment, and the duration of practical teaching for each project unit.In future research, the application of the occupational competence model in the UAV application technology curriculum will be further optimized to improve the quality of talent cultivation. At the same time, the research scope will be continuously expanded, and the model of occupational competence will be applied to other technical fields to promote the development of vocational education in technical disciplines.During the practice of this study, the combination of the model of occupational competence and project-based teaching method helps to stimulate students’ interest in learning, cultivate their practical skills and team spirit.By closely collaborating with enterprises, the curriculum design is made more in line with actual needs, and students’ employability is enhanced. In conclusion, the application research of the model of occupational competence in talent cultivation in UAV application technology provides new theoretical support and practical guidance for the development of vocational education in the field of UAV.
