With the increasing yearning of people for a better life and residents’ pursuit of a better living environment in residential districts, the water landscape design has become increasingly important for landscape designing of residential districts. The water landscape layout, water landscape utilization, and water landscape conservation are only involved in the early design and there is no in-depth research, which caused a series of problems in the later use. What’s more,it will cause the water landscape to stop running after the residential area is put into use, which will generate a waste of limited environmental resources in residential districts. In addition, the water landscape engineering environment is complex and requires high-quality construction and maintenance.Whether we can start from the design stage to make water landscape be continuously and effectively utilized and reduce the problems that may occur in the future, this needs us to use a scientific and efficient method to carry out research and analysis. In this thesis, the types of restraining factors that affect the effect of water landscape application in residential districts were summarized and updated through methods such as literature analysis and expert interviews.Considering using the questionnaire survey method, the questionnaire surveys were done on-site and questionnaires were distributed online.105 questionnaires have been collected in total and 103 valid questionnaires have been screened out. Then the validity and reliability of the obtained data were inspected via SPSS software, and analyzed by analytic hierarchy process: the constraint that has the greatest influence on the utilization of water landscape in residential districts is the use and maintenance factors in the use process after the completion of the residential area projects,of which the index layer factor with the highest degree of influence is the water landscape quality. In addition,in terms of construction units, frequent changes and construction period restraining factors will also have a relatively great influence on the utilization effect of residential landscapes.Secondly,in terms of development units,it is necessary to pay attention to cost control and aesthetic issues, which may also have an influence on the utilization of water landscape in residential districts. From the perspective of the design unit, the form and style of water landscape design are still the most important points. While at the level of laws and regulations,it has a relatively small influence on the water landscape of residential districts. At the end of this thesis, the completed project was taken as an example to analyze the restraining factors, and specific countermeasures were put forward, such as establishing scientific and systematic design specifications of water landscapes in residential districts, reasonably controlling project construction schedule, and improving contract terms,it is recommended to hire a third-party consultant and establish a communication mechanism among design units, development units, and construction units. All the above can provide well-grounded guidance for future projects, and promote the project participants to take the application effect after completion into consideration during the construction period, and carry out the well-grounded construction.
