Design Of Entrance Furniture For Generation Y Homes Based On POEMS Framework

As the entrance and buffer zone of residential space,the entrance is a space for people to enter and exit in their daily life and store common items;at the same time,the entrance can reflect the owner’s good taste and provide a good first impression to visitors,and the entrance furniture becomes more and more important.With the growth of Generation Y,they have become the main force of consumption in today’s society,and the basic growth environment and living environment of Generation Y consumers are more different from other people,they are more individualistic,the pursuit of personalization,in the daily use of the entrance demand will also be different from other people.In order to better meet the needs of the Y generation,this paper conducts a study on the design of residential entrance furniture by combining the specific functional needs with the characteristics of the Y generation’s use behavior.This paper firstly uses literature research method to give an overview of the entrance furniture and elaborates the connotation of Generation Y and POEMS framework.Secondly,through field research on Gen Y residential entryway furniture,we obtained the family situation,behavioral characteristics,and entryway furniture and item storage of Gen Y.Through subjective questionnaires and in-depth interviews,we summarized Gen Y’s entryway furniture preferences and derived the current pain points of Gen Y’s entryway furniture in terms of storage,space configuration and functional elements.By observing the activities of Generation Y in the entrance space,recording the activity behavior of Generation Y,and using the POEMS framework to process and analyze the observation materials,we summarized the needs of Generation Y for entrance furniture,including:changing shoes,storing coats,carrying backpacks,storage,handling express and takeaway,organizing grooming,cleaning and protection,emotional empathy,cleaning partitioning,decoration,obscuring the view,etc;And according to the use behavior and use needs of Generation Y,the entrance hall use space is divided into shoe storage area,multi-functional area,dressing area,storage area,and epidemic prevention and disinfection area.Finally,according to the activity behavior of Generation Y in the entrance space and the use demand of the entrance furniture,based on the design principles of practicality,comfort and decoration,the entrance furniture design is carried out for the common open and passage type entrance space in life,and the design scheme includes shoe cabinets,entrance closets,storage cabinets,hanging cabinets,wall cabinets,shoe changing stools and other products,and the design scheme is evaluated in terms of functionality,safety,aesthetics and emotion,operability and environment We evaluate the design solutions in five aspects:functionality,safety,aesthetics and emotion,operability,and environment,screen out the best solution,and optimize the design.On the one hand,this paper analyzes and summarizes the characteristics and behavioral features of the Generation Y population and the characteristics of the existing Generation Y residential entrance space,which can provide constructive suggestions for the reasonable planning and design of the Generation Y residential entrance;on the other hand,at the design practice level,the output design practice solutions can provide references for the design of the Generation Y residential entrance furniture.
