Research On The Impact Of The Opening Of CHINA RAILWAY Express On The Structural Excellence Of China’s Urban Manufacturing Industry

As a manifestation of "facility connectivity",the CHINA RAILWAY Express has brought great positive effects to China and Europe when COVID-19 swept the world.At the same time,China pointed out that it is necessary to build a new development pattern and improve the quality of China’s economic development.In order to build a new development pattern,China’s manufacturing industry is going abroad to shape the brand of China’s intelligent manufacturing.How transportation infrastructure affects China’s urban manufacturing structure is a focus of attention for scholars and governments in the context of institutional characteristics with Chinese characteristics.This paper uses the city-level data in China from 2008 to 2019,combined with the opening of CHINA RAILWAY Express,constructs a multi-time point DID model,and empirically studies the structural excellence of China’s urban manufacturing industry from the perspective of the opening of CHINA RAILWAY Express.Considering the different opening times of CHINA RAILWAY Express in different cities,a multi-phase DID model was constructed.Both the year fixed effect and the city fixed effect were controlled.It is found that,firstly,the opening of the CHINA RAILWAY Express has significantly improved the structural excellence of urban manufacturing,and this conclusion is still true after using a variety of robustness tests.Secondly,the impact of the opening of CHINA RAILWAY Express on the structural excellence of China’s urban manufacturing industry has significant heterogeneity in terms of spatial distribution,city scale and urban marketization index.Further,the mechanism test shows that the CHINA RAILWAY Express uses the agglomeration effect,export learning effect and diffusion effect to affect the structural excellence of urban manufacturing.This study provides relevant policy suggestions for China to promote the development of CHINA RAILWAY Express,optimize the manufacturing structure,and then promote "Made in China 2025" and the new development pattern.Compared with the existing research,the marginal contribution of this paper is: First,in terms of research perspective,there is still a lack of research on the relationship between CHINA RAILWAY Express and manufacturing structural excellence,and it mainly focuses on the macro level,and there is little discussion on a certain region or city.Starting from the perspective of the opening of CHINA RAILWAY Express,this paper examines its influence and mechanism on the structural excellence of urban manufacturing in China,which is helpful to enrich the literature in this field.Second,in terms of research content,this paper not only examines the relationship between the two,but also distinguishes the heterogeneity of region,city scale and marketization,and also explores the role of agglomeration effect,export learning effect and diffusion effect in the relationship between the opening of CHINA RAILWAY Express and the structural superiority of urban manufacturing industry,which makes the conclusion of this paper more comprehensive.Finally,in terms of research methods,this paper selects a variety of empirical methods to ensure the robustness of the empirical conclusions.
