The modern gardens of Nanxun are regarded as a paradigm of Chinese modern gardens.Among them, the patterns of garden doors and windows, like the eyebrows and eyes of the garden, are rich in content, diverse in combination, and present a clear order structure. Therefore, studying the door and window patterns of modern gardens in Nanxun is an important window to explore the style of Nanxun modern garden and even regional culture. In the current context of focusing on building a strong cultural country, exploring the inheritance and protection of these patterns is of great significance for digging deeper into the landscape context and regional culture. Therefore, this study will investigate the stylistic characteristics of the door and window patterns in Nanxun modern garden from macro to micro perspectives.Currently, there are three problems with research on Nanxun modern garden: firstly, the existing studies mainly focus on the peak period of garden development, with relatively less attention paid to modern gardens;secondly, existing research is scattered throughout literature related to gardens in Huzhou, lacking systematic and targeted research;thirdly, existing research mainly relies on subjective qualitative analysis, lacking quantitative analysis. In addition,in the application of traditional patterns, there are problems with structure, design, construction, and excessive consumption of time, materials, and cost. Therefore, this research uses methods such as literature review, field measurement, and analogical induction to sort out the overview, types, and characteristics of window and door patterns in Nanxun modern garden, while also exploring the quantitative application of these patterns through parametric design. The window and door patterns in Nanxun modern garden have evolved from official formulas, forming a process of pattern derivation from “elements-unit-structure”,which integrates Western classical decorative patterns and traditional auspicious patterns, representing the specific expression of social aesthetics in a particular time and space. In terms of element themes, unit combinations, and pattern structures, these patterns differ significantly from contemporary domestic and foreign decorative patterns, forming distinct regional characteristics.Their features can be summarized as follows: simplicity encompassing complexity, integration of meaning;variation revealing law, rhythmic imagery;and uniqueness revealing order, spatial sequence. However,in the inheritance and development process of modern Nanxun garden patterns, there are issues with the difficulty in quantifying the pattern hierarchy, replicating specific combinations, and adjusting the application process, resulting in single content, simple forms, and imbalanced order. This paper innovatively uses the Grasshopper tool in Rhinoceros software to design patterns and uses the landscape concept design of Xunyuan Phase III exhibition area as an example, combined with emerging construction technology,to explore the parametric application of window and door patterns in Nanxun modern garden. The aim is to solve the problems in traditional pattern applications and provide new ideas for enriching the research system of Nanxun modern garden and innovating traditional pattern applications,in order to assist in the research and preservation of gardens.
