Abstract/Summary:
Cities are constantly updated with historical development. With the rapid development of society and economy, the appearance of cities is changing with each passing day, with increasingly prominent modern features.Urban life is becoming more convenient with the improvement of economic conditions, and more and more people choose to settle in cities. At the same time, the cultural characteristics of cities are gradually weakening, and the protection of cultural heritage with historical value is facing challenges. Many cultural relics preserved from historical periods and included in the protection list tend to be distributed in isolated islands, and the overall background of the city continues to lose its authentic color. The protection of cultural heritage and the rapid development of modern society have gradually become incompatible, and their connotations and cultural heritage are being ignored and even forgotten by society. In modern society, people’s living environment and conditions have been improved, and their material needs have gradually shifted to the need for spiritual civilization.More and more social voices are eager to protect and preserve urban characteristics and culture. The protection of urban cultural characteristics has become an urgent issue, and how to protect urban characteristics and balance the protection and development of cultural heritage in dynamic development has become a topic facing contemporary social development. The concept of urban historical landscapes has shifted attention from important historical and cultural centers listed on the World C ultural Heritage List to historical cities that also have a long history and culture but have been neglected for a long time. These cities have not been abandoned by the times in their development, and have always maintained their own uniqueness. They should be valued in the protection agenda, and should be treated more carefully in the development process. The "stratification" attribute in the concept of urban historical landscape regards a historical city as the result of the accumulation of historical layers in a certain region. The "correlation" attribute relates the development of a historical city to the surrounding background and natural environment as a whole. The "integrity" attribute originates from the overa ll concept and coordinates the relationship between protection and development, which has guiding significance for the protection of historical cities.Kunming’s historical urban area is the origin of K unming’s urban development, and has been the center of urban development since the Tang Dynasty. It has a profound historical and cultural accumulation. From the perspective of "stratification",analyzing the value and spatial laws of urban development plays an important role in studying the evolution of urba n development and excavating urban culture. This article draws on the basic connotation of the concept of urban historical landscape, takes the "stratification" as the perspective, takes the historical urban area of K unming as the research object, and uses the relevant technologies of the GIS spatial analysis platform to conduct digital translation of historical maps and current urban maps from the Qing Dynasty to 1988.Based on the research results and digital translation results of other scholars, this article conducts a layered value analysis and spatial analysis of selected layered elements.Based on the analysis results,Based on the concept of urban historical landscape, relevant suggestions are proposed for the overall protection and development of Kunming’s historical urban area.By conducting a hierarchical analysis of the historical urban area of K unming,it can be concluded that the historical urban area of K unming is the origin of urban development.Since the Q ing Dynasty, different historical per iods have different urban features, showing obvious characteristics of the times.During the feudal period of the Qing Dynasty, there were strict differences between the urban area and the outside of the city. The construction of the urban area mainly served the rule of the feudal dynasty, and most commercial markets were distributed outside the city;During the period of the Republic of China, some spatial elements serving the feudal dynasty underwent transformation or demolition, resulting in changes in urban construction, and closer communication within and outside the city; After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, both inside and outside the city were integrated, and urban construction moved towards modernization.Cuihu Lake and its surrounding areas,Kunming Zoo,and Wenming Street historical and cultural blocks are regions with high stratification value in the historical urban area of Kunming.High value spatial elements and land use elements gather here, making them the core areas with profound historical and cultural stratification and significant urban cultural characteristics;Sanshi Street and Nantong Street,Guanghua Street and Yongdao Street,Wenming Street and Jingxing Street are streets and alleys with important historical value, inheritance value, and high density value in the historical urban area of Kunming. The protection and development of K unming’s historical urban area should be planned as a whole around the core area with rich layers and high value. At the same time, attentio n should be paid to protecting the complete natural background and development pattern of the city, excavating the cultural connotations formed during the development of urban spatial elements, roads, alleys, and land use elements, and protecting and reproducing the original spirit, culture, and heritage of the city.
