Traditional streets and alleys in China have a long history and are numerous, with unique historical features mainly distributed in historically rich areas. With the accelerated urbanization process, the urban landscape is gradually conceptualized, homogenized, and even presents the phenomenon of "thousands of cities with one look".As an important window for displaying and recognizing the historical and cultural landscape of the city, the importance of streets and alleys cannot be ignored. However, the current work on the protection of historical and cultural heritage mostly focuses on the protection of point and surface historical resources, and there is less research on linear historical resources. Therefore, this article selects the traditional streets and alleys of the Shangxiahang historical and cultural district in Fuzhou as the research object, studies their landscape and spatial characteristics, and proposes protection and renewal strategies to achieve the sustainable development of the traditional streets and alleys’ landscape and spatial features.Firstly,by comprehensively applying the literature research method, case study method, and analysis and induction method, the historical environment of Fuzhou ancient city and the development process of the Shangxiahang historical and cultural district are reviewed.Through field investigations,10 streets and alleys with high usage rates are selected as research objects.Based on the composition of the streets and alleys’ landscape and spatial elements, including material and non-material elements, the characteristics of the Shangxiahang streets and alleys’ landscape and spatial features are summarized and generalized from seven aspects: form structure, spatial scale, spatial interface, spatial nodes, plant landscape, cultural resources, and spatial color.Secondly, with the guidance of literature review and experts,a landscape and spatial features evaluation system for the Shangxiahang streets and alleys is established by selecting 21 indicators. An AHP-TOPSIS combination evaluation model is constructed, and street view image sets are selected as scoring basis from a human perspective. The expert weight assignment results and public scoring data are input into a MATLAB program to obtain the ranking of the landscape and spatial features of the streets and alleys under each feature indicator. The top 2 streets and alleys ranked under each feature indicator are extracted as ideal streets and alleys, providing a reference for the protection and renewal of the landscape and spatial features of other streets and alleys. Finally, based on the summarized characteristics and existing problems of the landscape and spatial features of the streets and alleys, this study proposes five principles for the overall protection and renewal of the landscape and spatial features of the streets and alleys in the Shangxiahang historical and cultural district, namely protection-oriented,humanistic,authentic,regionally cultural inheritance, and sustainable development. From seven aspects of the landscape and spatial features, including the form and structure, spatial scale, spatial interface, spatial nodes, plant landscape, cultural resources, and spatial color, specific strategies for the protection and renewal of the landscape and spatial features of the streets and alleys in the Shangxiahang historical and cultural district are proposed, aiming to provide reference for the protection and renewal of the landscape and spatial features of other traditional streets and alleys in Fuzhou. |
