Daylily has been cultivated in China for more than 3,000 years, and the earliest written records are found in "The Book of Songs",which has the name of mother flower. In recent years, the study of traditional patterns of Chinese gardens is mostly biased towards geometric patterns and floral patterns, and there is little research on daylily patterns, and it is mainly a typological study and cultural connotation.Perceptual imagery is the direct or indirect empirical awareness and subjective impression generated by the two-way interaction between objective objects and people, and is mostly used in the evaluation of industrial design, traditional culture and tourist destinations. The use of Method of Semantic Differential and Factor Analysis for perceptual imagery research to quantitatively study the audience’s perceptual and emotional needs for the research object has received increasing attention from scholars. This paper takes daylily pattern as the research object, adopts semantic difference method and factor analysis method to study people’s perceptual imagery of daylily pattern, derives the imagery matching of daylily pattern design elements and its specific characteristics, and proposes the design innovation, applies the perceptual imagery to daylily pattern research, will provide action guide for the use of daylily pattern on landscape. The main research findings of the paper can be summarized as the following three aspects:(a)Based on the existing research of daylily pattern, determine the cultural connotation of daylily pattern and the use in ancient decoration. The daylily pattern in ancient times mainly has the meaning of "Yiman grass","forgetful grass","filial piety",mainly used in porcelain, calligraphy and painting, the form of repeated patterns and suitable patterns mainly.(b)The semantic difference method is used to analyze the perceptual imagery of daylily patterns, and the factor analysis method is used to refine the main component factors of the perceptual imagery, and analyze the characteristics of the representative samples corresponding to each factor, the imagery matching degree of design elements and the priority degree. The results show that the overall perceptual imagery of daylily patterns is on the side of gorgeous, single, full, dynamic, simple, soft, sparse, and figurative. For the "gorgeous, full and soft" imagery, the design element priority is composition>line>element;for the "single, dynamic and figurative" imagery, the relatively realistic daylily pattern that occupies the visual center and different composition methods are used to express the design The priority of design elements is line>element>composition.(c)According to the cultural connotation and sensual imagery of daylily pattern, refine the imagery structure of daylily pattern, put forward the garden landscape design strategy in line with contemporary aesthetics, and carry out the design practice. The choice of different perceptual imagery also depends on the field scene and the choice of expression. The examples of windows, scenic walls and pavement, windows can be used to suit the type of pattern, individual patterns with certain shape restrictions,to achieve a "single, dynamic, figurative" image;scenic walls should be used to fold the pattern,to achieve a "gorgeous, full, soft The wall should adopt the folding pattern to achieve "gorgeous, full and soft" imagery. The pavement should adopt a balanced composition to achieve a "full, dynamic" image.
