| Living streets are the main place where the elderly conduct activities and social interactions every day,and their daily lives are inextricably linked to the streets.Nowadays, the planning and design of streets are generally not age-friendly,and the elderly urgently need humanized and inclusive high-quality street space environment to meet their behavior and activity needs. Therefore,in the context of "healthy city" and "aging in place",creating a living street space environment suitable for the behavior and activities of the elderly has become an important issue in current urban planning.Taking the behavioral activities and needs of the elderly as the starting point,we analyze the theoretical research on street space perception at home and abroad, and investigate the characteristics of the elderly’s behavioral activities and street space perception from three levels: street space environment, elderly’s behavioral activities and space perception needs,so as to build a framework for evaluating the impact of street behavior perception. The study was conducted on five typical streets, including residential communities, traditional streets and urban side streets, using on-site surveys, behavioral observations and questionnaires. The current situation of the physical space of the streets was studied in four aspects, including the characteristics of the spatial scale of the streets, the characteristics of the interface along the streets, the characteristics of the street furniture and facilities, and the characteristics of the streetscape greenery, etc. In terms of the behavioral activities of the elderly and the perception of the street space, the behavioral activities of the elderly in the streets and the evaluation of the environmental facilities and spatial perception of the streets were studied. The correlation analysis was conducted by inputting the research data of street space elements, elderly people’s behavioral activities and street space perception evaluation into SPSS to identify the important influencing elements and their interrelationships, focusing on the characteristics of behavioral activities and perception patterns of different elderly groups in different street types. With the help of statistical analysis,we identify the elements of street environment that have positive and negative effects on the behavioral activities and spatial perception of the elderly from the overall, individual and categorical comparisons, and summarize the outstanding problems in the current situation of the sample streets.Based on the analysis of the characteristics of elderly people’s behavioral activities and spatial perceptions, this paper proposes three types of living strategies in four aspects:improving the traffic organization system and constructing convenient pedestrian space for street space protection;enriching the green environment and optimizing the elderly-friendly side interface for comfort;improving the configuration of elderly-friendly facilities for facility support;and providing various interaction spaces and continuing the humanistic vein of the street for pleasure. The optimization strategies of the streets are proposed.Through the study of the spatial suitability of living streets for the elderly,we enrich the existing research on the spatial suitability of living streets for the elderly in terms of content, methodology and empirical evidence,in order to provide new reference ideas for the evaluation and improvement of the spatial suitability of living streets for the elderly. |
