Beef cattle industry plays an important role in the whole animal husbandry of our country.Beef cattle breeding is the basis of beef cattle industry chain.Since entering the 21 st century,China’s economy has prospered and developed,people’s living standards have improved significantly,andthedemand forbeef has increased.Jilin Provinceis a majoragricultural province in China.Beefcattlebreedinghasa longhistory.Itislocatedinthehinterlandofthe Northeastbeef cattle industrial belt.It is rich in feed resources,which improves the natural advantages of beef cattle breeding.Jilin Province has been the national beef cattle advantage area determined by the Ministry of agriculture.Yanbian cattle in Jilin Province is one of the five local improved breeds in China.It is located in the economic development zone of Northeast Asia.Yanbian Prefecture is located in the main grain producing area,with superior natural conditions andrich forage and feed resources.Yanbian yellow cattle have good meat production performance,delicious meat quality and distinctive regional characteristics.These beef cattle have soft meat and good meat quality,whicharewelcomedbymanyconsumersathomeandabroad.However,inthedevelopmentstage of animal husbandry,due to the relatively backward breeding methods,the lack of scientific and effective management methods,the overall organization level and degree are not high,and the management and planning are not carried out in accordance with the requirements of breeding standards.Especially because the breeding cost is too high,there are fewer and fewer farmers,and the breeding scale changes.Affected by the later extension of the industrial chain,the scale benefit ofbreedingislow.Itisnotconducivetosustainabledevelopment.Thispapercombinesthecurrent situationofbeefcattleindustry,beefcattlebreeding andbeef cattle industry at home and abroad.Based on the theoretical basis,this paper expounds the current situation of beef cattle breeding in Yanbian Prefecture from many angles.The different breeding scales are divided into four groups: 50-99 heads in the first group,100-149 heads in the second group,150-199 heads and more than 200 heads in the fourth group.It basically covers all beef cattle breeding scale in Yanbian Prefecture.Through field investigation and telephone interview,the beef cattle farms of different scales in Yanbian Prefecture were investigated.In the process of investigating the fixed costs required for breeding,the costs of labor,young animals,fine and coarse fodder,hydropower,fuel power,epidemic prevention and control,etc.are calculated.By calculating the income of beef cattle farms of different sizes,and calculating the annual profits of four groups of different sizes.Using DEA model analysis,reasonable indicators are selected as input factors to calculate comprehensive efficiency,pure technical efficiency and scale efficiency.Explore the optimal and most suitable scale of beef cattle raising under the current situation of Yanbian Prefecture.Finally,the paper gives relevant policy suggestions from the perspective of farmers of different sizes and the government: from the perspective of the government,we should strengthen the support to the beefcattle industry,improve the improved variety breeding system and improve the regulation mechanism.From the perspective of farms(households),we should adopt appropriate scale according to local conditions,improve the technical level of beef cattle breeding and strengthen the control of epidemic diseases.Provide reference for farmers and government decision-making.
