Jiangxi Province is located in the central subtropical zone of southeastern Eurasia, between longitudes 113°34′18″and 118°28′56″East and latitudes 24°29′14″and 30°04′43″North,with an area of approximately 166,900 km~2.The region is surrounded by the Wuyi Mountains,Nanling Mountains and Luoxiao Mountains in the east, south and west, respectively, and the Poyang Lake Plain in the north. In this study,we investigated the natural distribution and anthropogenic introductions of the sympodial bamboo species in Jiangxi Province, completed a preliminary analysis of the flora of the sympodial bamboo in Jiangxi, and studied the ecological adaptability of introduced sympodial bamboo using correlation analysis and set-pair analysis. The main results are as follows:(1)There are relatively abundant species of sympodial bamboo in Jiangxi. The literature and field investigation preliminarily found 37 species in three genera of bamboos in the region, including 9 species and 3 varieties of bamboos in the field, and 32 species,including15 species, seven varieties, one form, seven cultivars and two hybrids,in the introduced sites.Furthermore, two new distribution records, one doubtful taxon, and one variation of culm color were found.(2)The sympodial bamboo in Jiangxi has a single flora composition.Based on the distribution types of Chinese seed plant genera classified by Mr.Wu Zhengyi, they can be divided into three distribution types and one distribution variant. The genera related to pantropical distribution are absolutely dominant, with one genus,11 naturally distributed species, and 19 introduced species. The flora is not strongly endemic, with the highest similarity to Hunan Province, and only one endemic Schizostachyum dumetorum var.xinwuense.(3)Jiangxi sympodial bamboos have an obvious distribution pattern in latitude. The sympodial bamboo is widely distributed in all administrative regions of Jiangxi Province, with a decreasing trend from south to north in latitude, but not showing a clear pattern in longitude. The study also found a significant negative correlation between plant height, diameter at breast height and latitude, respectively, for Dendrocalamus latiflorus,an economically important bamboo species in southern Jiangxi. Moreover, there was a significant positive correlation between plant height and diameter at breast height, while no significant correlation between internode length and latitude, plant height and diameter at breast height,respectively.(4)Based on the ecological adaptability evaluation, the cultivated bamboo species in the three major introductions in Jiangxi were classified into five categories:fully adapted, more adapted, generally adapted, less adapted and extremely unadapted. Most of the bamboo species in each of the introduced sites showed relatively adapted, although a few showed extremely unadapted. The native bamboo species mostly showed fully adapted and relatively adapted. Some bamboo species showed completely different ecological adaptations in different introduced sites.
