This study was conducted to investigate the effects of different levels of garlic straw powder on growth performance, meat quality, antioxidant performance, serum physiological and biochemical indices and intestinal mucosal morphology of yellow-feathered broilers. This experiment was conducted to determine the effect of garlic straw powder on yellow-feathered broilers and the optimal supplemental level,in order to provide scientific reference for the development of garlic straw as unconventional feed material resources.A single factor randomized trial design was used in this study.A total of 360 healthy28-day-old yellow-feathered broilers from the same batch with the same genetic background were randomly divided into 4 groups with 6 replicates per group and 15 broilers per replicate. The experimental groups were as follows: control group(feeding basal diet)and experimental groups I(feeding basal diet supplemented with garlic straw meal 3%),ⅱ(feeding basal diet supplemented with garlic straw meal 6%)and ⅲ(feeding basal diet supplemented with garlic straw meal 9%).There was no significant difference in initial body weight among all groups(P > 0.05).The experiment lasted for 28 days. The results show that:(1)Growth performance: Compared with control group, there were no significant differences in average initial weight, average final weight,ADG,ADFI and F/G among experimental groups(P > 0.05).(2)Meat quality: Compared with the control group, the drip loss of chest muscle in experimental groups I,ⅱ and ⅲ was decreased(0.01<P<0.05),20.11%(0.01<P<0.05)and 20.50%(0.01<P<0.05),respectively.For leg muscle, compared with the control group, the redness a* of leg muscle in test group ⅱ was significantly increased by 23.18%(0.01<P<0.05).(3)Serum physiology and biochemistry indexes: Compared with the control group,GLU,TG,CHO,UREA,UA,TP,GLB,ALB,AST and ALT of chickens supplemented with3%,6% and 9% garlic straw powder had no significant differences(P > 0.05).(4)Serum antioxidant index: Compared with the control group, the serum GSH-Px level of experimental group ⅲ was increased by 21.3%(0.01<P<0.05).Meanwhile,compared with the control group, the serum SOD level of test group I was increased by21.85%(0.01<P<0.05).(5)Intestinal mucosal morphology: this experiment showed that there were no significant differences in intestinal villus height, crypt depth,V/C and intestinal wall thickness among all treatment groups(P > 0.05).In conclusion, under the experimental conditions, different levels of garlic straw powder can improve meat quality and antioxidant performance of yellow-feathered broilers without affecting growth performance, serum biochemistry and intestinal mucosal morphology of broilers. It is advisable to add about 6% garlic straw powder in the diet of yellow-feathered broilers.
