Objective:To estimate the average modern adult cranial capacity, supratentorial volume and infratentorial volume using thin-slice CT data of head in China,as well as to analyze the gender differences and trends to establish normal reference values and provides a reference basis for clinical diagnosis and treatment. Methods:A retrospective and cross-sectional study from June 2020 to June 2021 was conducted.A total of 597(341 males and 256 females)thin-slice CT scans that met the inclusion criteria were collected from Picture Archiving and Communication System(PACS)of hospital from June 2016 to June 2021.The rats were divided into A(18-32 years old),B(33-47 years old),C(48-62 years old),D(63-77 years old)and E(78-92 years old)groups according to different ages and sexes. The cranial capacity were reconstructed and segmented in three dimensions by Mimics software, and cranial capacity, supratentorial intracranial volume and infratentorial intracranial volume were calculated, and statistical analysis was performed on the obtained data. Results:The average cranial capacity, supratentorial volumes and infratentorial volumes of men were 1492.38±117.11 cm~3,1283.14±105.67cm~3and209.23±18.62 cm~3respectively and that of women were 1321.18±96.37 cm~3,1135.25±87.23cm~3and 185.93±15.05 cm~3respectively,the cranial capacity, supratentorial volumes and infratentorial volumes were statistically significant in gender; After grouping according to age, there was gender difference in the cranial capacity, supratentorial volumes and infratentorial volumes of each group;According to the trend diagram of cranial capacity, supratentorial volumes and infratentorial volumes, the cranial capacity, supratentorial volumes and infratentorial volumes have shown a slowly increasing trend over the past decades; The mean ratio of the infratentorial volume to the supratentorial volume was about 16%,and there was no statistically significant difference between men and women. Conclusion:The average cranial capacity, supratentorial volumes and infratentorial volumes of modern Chinese males are larger than of females and both sexes have shown an increase in the cranial capacity, supratentorial volumes and infratentorial volumes during the last few decades; The average ratio of infratentorial to supratentorial volume in Chinese adults is about 16%;Our findings contribute to the establishment of normal reference values for cranial capacity, supratentorial volumes and infratentorial volumes in modern Chinese adults,as well as a theoretical basis for customized therapy and diagnosis in clinical practice.
