With the globalization of economy and the progress of science and technology,English has become an indispensable language for communication.Curriculum reform and the strong demand for English talents in Chinese society are promoting the development of higher vocational English education.The main goal of higher vocational English education is to cultivate students’practical communicative competence,especially the ability to communicate with others accurately and fluently in real life.As College English Teaching Syllabus(English Teaching Syllabus for Non-English Majors)requires,"The teaching model should be student-centered.Teachers need to impart general language knowledge and skills and pay more attention to the cultivation of language competence and autonomous learning ability of students by using multimedia and network technology.”Higher education in China has entered a new period of development,and higher vocational colleges are also facing new development opportunities and challenges.At present,it is obvious that oral teaching does not meet the need of talent training,so it is urgent to reform and improve it.Otherwise it is difficult to achieve the goal of talent training in higher vocational colleges and the requirements of the society for this kind of talents.The problems of oral English teaching in higher vocational colleges are listed as follows:first,the imperfect of the oral English textbook,and the inappropriate selection of the conversation materials;second,poor teaching conditions and the insufficient application of modern teaching media in real classroom teaching;third,the backward teaching methods,which do not meet the requirements of the information age and the students’ actual level;and fourth,the unscientific setting of the teaching evaluation system.These problems are caused by various factors,including the ambiguous positioning of oral English teachers in higher vocational colleges,the lack of a solid foundation of higher vocational students and the shortage of oral English teachers,etc.Therefore,to solve these problems,we need to reform the existing classroom teaching model in higher vocational oral classroom teaching.In order to solve these problems of the teaching model,the author attempts to construct a new teaching model.The scaffolding theory,autonomous learning theory and cooperative learning theory are the foundation of the theory for constructing the new teaching model in this thesis.On the basis of the current higher vocational English classroom teaching model,the author combines actual classroom teaching and real scene teaching to carry on the real simulation teaching,and uses the modern multimedia technology in the class.The author integrates online and offline activities,adopts activities in class and after class to construct the "three-class" teaching model as a combination of the basic class,the follow-up class and the feedback and evaluation class.The purpose of this study is to promote higher vocational oral English classroom teaching with "three-class" teaching model.Experiments are devised to testify the validity of "three-class" model,in which the author selects some preschool bilingual students enrolled in 2018 of the Department of Education of Fujian XX Vocational College as participants.A total number of 64 students from two classes participate in the empirical study with one control class and the other one experimental class.These participants are divided into 16 groups in order to better complete group dialogue exercises.Those students have been tested twice,one is before taking the classes and the other is after finishing all the classes,then the scores of the two tests are compared to see the changes in students’ achievements.The author inputs the data of the test scores into the SPSS 17.0 and use the test analysis method to analyze the data.Major findings are listed as follows.First of all,the "three-class" teaching model has a significant effect on improving the conversational ability of higher vocational students,especially on the real interactive communication ability.Secondly,it arouses the interest of students to actively participate in the after class practicing.Finally,with the help of the"three-class" teaching model,the students make progress in their conversational ability.Finally,the author points out the findings of the study and the limitations of this new teaching model.It is hoped that it can help to offer some supplement for the current vocational English classroom teaching model and provide reference for teachers’ oral English classroom teaching in higher vocational colleges.
