The master John Singer Sargent(1586-1925)was one of the most representative painters in Europe and America from the 19 th century to the 20 th century.He has made outstanding contributions in various fields of painting art.This paper takes the rise of the second industrial revolution in the mid-19 th century as the background,expounded the positive effects on his art works from the culture and social factors.This paper also focused on Sargent’s unique achievements in the field of female portrait painting and started a systematic study on his painting art.Sargent entered the Academy of Fine Arts in his youth.His long-term academic painting research not only laid a solid foundation for his artistic career,but also caused profound impact on himself.His artworks absorbed the Impressionism and the Dutch School of small painting,which focused on light,color and vivid image to give prominence to the main characters’ style,so that his portrait works showed a unique fashion appearance.These pictures not only retains the noble spirit,but also presents a clear rhythmic relationship and elegant colors.He controlled the overall black and white gray effect of the picture by his strong ability and retained the plane sense of the picture during his delicate depiction.It is fashionable,elegant and popular,which is sought after by the people of the time.Originated from my adoration of master Sargent and his female oil painting portraits,this paper mainly started from the noumenon of oil painting and analyze the fashion characteristics of his works,which can be summarized as follows: 1.Elegant social portrayal;2.Vivid and fluent pen methods;3.Gorgeous and warm colors.Besides,according to author’s personal art practice,this paper also mentioned about how to get inspiration from masters’ artworks to help us improve the capability of researching painting in the feature. |
