Yifeng(Art Wind Monthly)was a Republican era journal dedicated to the arts published from 1933-1937.It featured articles on artistic developments abroad and within China covering topics such as art history, art movements, music, events, and exhibitions.Yifeng’s launch coincided with the relaunch of the Association des Artistes Chinois en France(Association of Chinese Artists in France or “AACF”),an artist collective based in Paris.Yifeng editor-in-chief Sun Fuxi(1898-1962)was a student of art history in France in 1921 whose subsequent travels to Europe contributed to his ambitious publishing endeavors while also serving as an instructor at the National Hangzhou Art Academy.Sun’s role was instrumental in Yifeng’s collaboration with the AACF on special editions introducing AACF itself and modern art to its Chinese readership. The symbiotic relationship between Yifeng and AACF provided not only an exclusive platform for the artist group to publish its manifesto and perspectives on China’s artistic development relative to the world, but also represents a unique legacy documenting China’s quest for modernity in the field of art.The jointly issued Yifeng Special Edition— the Association of Chinese Artists in France in 1934 and Yifeng Special Edition— Modern Art edited by the AACF in 1936 are testament to their international cooperation that merit critical exploration and dialogue.
