| The relationship between people and place is the core of geographic research.since the 1990 s,scholars from different fields such as demography, geography, and sociology have explored the floating populations in depth from different perspectives. With the cultural-geographical turn of migration studies, migration studies as commonsense knowledge of cultural production, cultural expression and cultural impact as well as cultural events have rich meanings for individuals, families, social groups, communities and nations. At the same time,China has entered into a phase of rapid urbanization, and the city continues to expand rapidly on a large scale,in which the floating population plays an important role as an important component of urban population growth and urbanization, and its spatial pattern profoundly affects the urbanization process in China and has a multifaceted impact on urban space. As the capital city of Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture,Yanji City is the political, economic and cultural centre of the state, and its urban spatial development is representative. Therefore, this paper selects Yanji city as the research object and adopts the in-depth interview method to explore the spatial pattern of the floating population and the impact on urban space.Firstly, the study area is outlined in terms of geographical location and socio-economic aspects using relevant yearbook data;Secondly, after obtaining the natural and social attributes of the floating population in Yanji City through questionnaire surveys, the spatial pattern characteristics of the floating population in Yanji City are explored using national population census data from 2000 to 2020 combined with population density from Arc GIS and spatial autocorrelation analysis from Geoda;then, the urban spatial practices of the floating population; Finally, this paper focuses on the impact of the floating population on urban space, and explores the spatial pattern of the floating population in Yanji City and its research on the impact on urban space based on three field surveys and in-depth analysis. The main conclusions of this paper are as follows.(1)The results of the Yanji City questionnaire show that the majority of the floating population in Yanji City are women, the range of mobility is mainly inter-provincial,followed by inter-county mobility within the city, their places of origin show spatial proximity and are related to historical reasons, the types of occupation of the floating population are mainly business, labour and unstable income, the duration of residence is most frequent for six months to one year, followed by two to three years and the overall willingness of the floating population to stay is not very positive.(2)Using the data of the three population censuses from 2000 to 2020 and the spatial autocorrelation analysis,it is found that the density of the floating population in Yanji City shows a trend of "increasing first and then decreasing",while the number of High-High and Low-Low equivalents changes to a slightly higher number of Low-Low aggregations. This indicates that the spatial pattern of the floating population in Yanji City is changing from agglomeration to equilibrium.(3)Through field investigation and in-depth interviews,it was found that the spatial practice of floating population in Yanji City has the following characteristics:First,in the working space, the source of floating population in Yanji City is related to the fixed industry of the city;Secondly,in housing and commuting space, the residential choices of floating populations are geographical and the commuting time is mainly within half an hour;Third,in terms of consumption space, spatial proximity to residential areas is the most important factor in the consumption choice of floating populations; From the second, the bathing culture enriched the cultural experience and leisure and entertainment space of the floating population in Yanji City; Finally, floating populations rely on social network spaces to provide convenience and emotional support for urban life.(4)This paper focuses on three aspects of the mechanism of the floating population’s influence on urban space.Firstly, the economic space is strengthened by the gathering of the floating population by industry;Secondly, the unique cultural experience enriches the social space;Thirdly, the national identity of the Korean people expands the multicultural space of the city; Finally, the need of the floating population for production and living stimulates the space of the physical environment, which makes the urban space of Yanji City expand outwards. |
