| Since the 1980 s,the cultivation of cultural awareness has gradually become the focus of attention in foreign language education.In 2001,with the comprehensive promotion of my country’s new curriculum reform,cultural awareness,as an important part of English teaching,was written into the English curriculum target structure for the first time.In 2012,the "English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2011 Edition)" clearly pointed out: "Language has rich cultural connotations,contact and understanding of excellent foreign cultures help to understand and use English,and help to accept the advanced Cultural influence." The new curriculum standard emphasizes the cultivation of cultural awareness,which is conducive to improving students’ comprehensive language ability.However,in recent years,on the one hand,the relevant research on the cultivation of English cultural awareness of primary school students in my country is not very satisfactory.There are relatively few studies on awareness development.On the other side,English teaching in our country has always focused on imparting language knowledge and language skills to students,ignoring the cultivation of students’ English cultural awareness,which greatly reduces the intrinsic value of English education and leads to the long-term status and role of English cultural awareness.Not very well represented.Therefore,this study selects 195 sixth grade students which from B primary school in C city as the study object.Based on the theory of language-cultural relations,cognitive development stage theory,constructivism theory and Krashen’s affective filtering hypothesis,it comprehensively uses the literature method,Research methods such as test method,questionnaire survey method and interview method are used to conduct research on the following three aspects:(1)Research on the status quo of the cultivation of primary school students’ English cultural awareness;(2)Research on the influencing factors of the cultivation of English cultural awareness of primary school students;(3)Research on countermeasures for the cultivation of primary school students’ English cultural awareness.The research conclusions are as follows:(1)The overall level of primary school students’ English cultural awareness is relatively low.Specifically,primary school students’ cultural knowledge and awareness of intercultural communication are at a lower level,compared with lower levels of cultural understanding and intercultural communication competence.(2)Primary school students are not very interested in learning English culture,teachers have insufficient professional knowledge and their teaching concepts cannot keep pace with the times.The school’s test-oriented education concept and parents’ educational thinking of fractionalism have resulted in the low level of English culture knowledge of primary school students.main reason.(3)Primary students’ low interest in learning,poor mastery of basic English knowledge,and low level of teachers’ professional knowledge are the main reasons for the low understanding of primary school students’ English culture.(4)Differences in individual cognitive levels of primary school students,teachers’ backward teaching concepts and single and boring teaching methods are the main reasons for the low level of primary school students’ English cross-cultural communication awareness.(5)Pupils’ improper learning attitude,heavy schoolwork burden,old-fashioned teaching ideas of teachers and huge work pressure,general teaching conditions in schools,weak teacher training and unscientific English teaching evaluation methods are the causes of primary school students’ English cross-cultural communication.The main reason for low capacity.In order to effectively solve the problems existing in the cultivation of English cultural awareness of primary school students,this paper puts forward the following suggestions:(1)In terms of improving the English cultural knowledge level of primary school students,firstly,teachers and parents should focus on cultivating students’ interest in English culture,and adopt various forms of activities to cultivate students’ interest and enthusiasm in learning English cultural knowledge;Exam-oriented education concept,carry out a variety of cultural activities inside and outside the classroom.(2)In terms of improving the English cultural understanding of primary school students,first,teachers need to strengthen their learning of specialized knowledge,strengthen their own English cultural literacy,and adopt different teaching methods.Second,schools need to strengthen their training of English teachers to improve their skills.(3)In improving the level of English cross-cultural communication awareness of primary school students,teachers need to adopt and use a variety of educations and update their education concepts in a timely manner to keep up with the times.Next,pay attention to the level of training in English cultural content.(4)In terms of improving primary school students’ English cross-cultural communication ability,firstly,teachers should create teaching situations,increase students’ cross-cultural learning experience,help students correct their English learning attitude,and foster students’ independence in learning English culture;The teaching conditions should be improved,the construction of campus English culture should be strengthened,the evaluation system of English teaching should be improved according to the teaching practice,and the cultivation of students’ cross-cultural communication ability should be emphasized. |
