The Art Of Wang Anyi’s Short Stories

By sorting out and analyzing the creative characteristics and artistic style of Wang Anyi’s short stories,this paper expounds the value of Wang Anyi’s short stories in contemporary literature and its enlightenment to the current literary phenomenon.The main content is divided into three parts:The first part expounds the characteristics of Wang Anyi’s short stories in terms of material selection.It is believed that most of Wang Anyi’s short stories are drawn from ordinary and meaningful life,which is embodied in the following three aspects:first,the interception of the cross-section of life;second,the choice of small beer as the object of performance;third,the deep concern for the real world.Wang Anyi’s focus on "small"objects in the selection of materials precisely reflects the "big" vision of her creation,and also makes her novels more meaningful.The second part analyzes the narrative features of Wang Anyi’s short stories,which can generally be summarized as plain stories and profound narratives.First of all,the narrative structure flexible and diverse,although it seems loose.The bilinear structure with rich connotations,the prose structure with scattered shapes,and the radioactive structure with wandering thoughts have produce different aesthetic effects.Secondly,the narrative perspective is actually very particular despite its apparent arbitrariness.Wang Anyi uses a variety of narrative perspectives such as omniscient narrative and limited-knowledge narrative in the creation of short stories,showing a change from subjective narrative to objective narrative as a whole.Thirdly,the flat narrative tone of Wang Anyi’s short stories is consistent with the narrative style of her novels.The concrete language creates a dialogue context and makes the characters more vivid.And the abstract language presents the real situation,which expresses Wang Anyi’s literary concept of rejecting language stylization.Although Wang Anyi consciously refuses to stylize her language,she still more or less expresses the dense language style in her creations and draws on traditional Chinese painting techniques creating a picturesque aesthetic mood.The third part further explores the consciousness of Wang Anyi’s creation concept and principle in her short stories.Like her other genres of writing,she always adheres to the artistic pursuit of being plain and independent.First,she always focused on the core of life.Second,in the inheritance and rebellion of realism,the exploration and research of short story creation theory and the consideration and choice between short stories and medium-length novels,Wang Anyi consciously forged the style of short stories.Third,in the environment of various literary trends,the impact of the market economy,artistic production and acceptance of commercialization and entertainment,Wang Anyi always adheres to her creative principles and artistic pursuits,and she builds her own spiritual world through continuous practice to achieve self-transcendence.This paper argues that,as a very influential and creative contemporary writer,Wang Anyi’s achievements in short story writing cannot be ignored.Her stylistic consciousness,simple and elegant artistic tastes,and consistent writing principles are not only unique in the history of contemporary Chinese literature,but also inspiring to current literary writing and various phenomena.
