| The translation material of the C-E translation practice report is selected from Mysterious Hupingshan Mountain written by Mr.Zhang Fuyu. The book was published by Hunan Science and Technology Press in April 2002,with a total of about 300,000 words. It introduces the tourism resources of Hupingshan Mountain as well as the customs and culture of the Tujia people, which has promoted the publicity of Hupingshan Mountain and the development of local tourism. The source text is mainly descriptive language, including vivid and beautiful scenery description and objective and concise information statement, and a variety of rhetorical devices are used to arouse reader’ tourism interest. It belongs to both informative text and operative text.Based on the translation of five articles excerpted from Mysterious Hupingshan Mountain and on the analysis of the language features of the source text under the guidance of Nord’s Function plus Loyalty theory, the translator studies specific cases and discusses the corresponding translation strategies and methods in dealing with the difficulties encountered in the translation practice,i.e.,the translation of scenic spot names,culture-loaded words, fourcharacter structures,Chinese sentences without subject and run-on sentences. For example,in the translation of scenic spot names, the translator uses transliteration, literal translation and free translation;as for the translation of run-on sentences, the translation methods such as combination, division and reconstructing are adopted. On the premise of accurately conveying the information of the source text,it is necessary to consider the reception and response of the target language readers and preserve the characteristics and connotation of Chinese culture as much as possible. |
