A Report On English Translation Of Ramble In Qinhuangdao From The Perspective Of Function Plus Loyalty

This report is based on the translation of the book Ramble in Qinhuangdao.It was written in the form of tour guide manual with literariness and enjoyment.The book covers almost all the famous tourist sites in three districts and four counties of Qinhuangdao city.Literary forms of Chinese cultural characteristics such as the couplet and poems are also included,which makes a great contribution to Qinhuangdao culture and Chinese culture transmission.The chapter concerning Shanhaiguan district is chosen as the major object in this translation practice.The analysis section consists of two parts,namely tour guide manual translation and couplet translation.The translation practice is proceeded under the guidance of Nord's function plus loyalty.Nord's text analysis model is also applied with extratextual factors and intratextual factors the major consideration.By summarizing tour guide manual translation,the translator selected dynasty and year,historical figures and cultural proper nouns as the key and difficult points,and put forward several translation methods,such as annotation,analogy translation and generalization.Based on the study of the couplet translation,a "5P Translation Strategy",including Punctuation,Paraphrase,Target Text Producing,Presupposition Adding and Polish,is established.Hopefully,this report can have some reference value for the translation of other similar texts.
