| Nowadays the world is undergoing complex and profound changes and many countries are confronted with severe challenges.President Xi Jinping put forward the "Belt and Road Initiative" national top-level cooperation initiative to safeguard the global free trade system and the open world economy.Power Construction Corporation of China(short for Power China)has been actively implementing the national "Belt and Road Initiative" and participating in the construction of electric power,water conservancy and other projects in countries along the route,which has greatly promoted the local social and economic development.This translation practice report is based on eight news stories selected from Chapter One of News Stories about Employees with Power China’s Belt and Road Initiative Projects.Through the analysis of specific cases,the author probed into the characteristics and translation skills of soft news,and tried to convey the original content faithfully,smoothly and naturally to the greatest extent and achieve functional equivalence between the source text and target text,so as to tell Chinese stories and spread the corporate culture of Power China.Through this practice,the translator has accumulated soft news translation experience and wishes this translation practice can provide some reference for the translation of the same type of texts.This translation report is divided into five parts.The first part is the introduction,which mainly introduces the project background,project description and client’s requirements.The second part is the project process,which includes three steps: pre-translation,in-translation and post-translation.The third part talks about text analysis and the guiding theory Functional Equivalence Theory.The fourth part is the analysis and discussion of translation examples,mainly including three aspects.The lexical level mainly illustrates the translation of idioms,buzzwords,technical glossaries and proper nouns,and the syntactic level mainly involves five translation skills: division,combination,negation,addition and omission,and finally the translation skills of news titles,which including literal translation,free translation,addition and omission.The fifth part is related to a summary of this translation report. |
