A Translation Report On "The Belt And Road Initiative": Opportunity And Challenge(Excerpts)

In this translation report,the author takes “The Belt and Road Initiative”: Opportunity and Challenge as the analysis material and source text of translation,which was written by Wang Yiwei,a professor of international relations at Renmin University of China,and was officially published by People's Publishing House,on April 1,2015.This book is basically divided into four parts,including the historical transcendence of the Belt and Road Initiative,the opportunity and challenge of the Belt and Road Initiative and how to build the Belt and Road.Due to the space limitations,the author will select the introduction and the first chapter as the source text of translation,which includes “construct the Belt and Road and connect the Chinese Dream with the World Dream” and “the historical transcendence of the Belt and Road Initiative”.Through this translation report,the author expects to make some preliminary exploration about the strategies,characteristics and techniques in translating the Chinese documentaries on current political situations through the analysis of the practicability,intentionality and professionalism involved in the texts,and tries to improve my translation level through solving the various problems with related strategies and techniques in the translation.Besides,as a master of translation,the author would like to make a proper combination of the specialty characteristics and the hot political topics.On the one hand,that will help make the readers have a correct understanding of the Belt and Road Initiative;on the other hand,the author hopes to make the target text adjust to the reading habits of the English readers on the basis of faithfully expressing the original ideas and implicit meanings,decrease the barriers to understanding caused by cultural differences and achieve a similar reading effectiveness between the source-text and target-text readers.This translation practice benefits the author a lot,which not only gives the author a chance to make a coordinated use of the translation strategies and translation techniques,but also remedies the defect of the information about the latest national policies;not only improves the author's abilities and qualities to use the translation strategies and translation techniques,but also accumulates valuable practical experience.Most importantly,this translation practice makes the author intensely aware of the lack of knowledge reserves and bilingual transformation competence,after all,either of which is indispensable for a qualified translator.And in the following translation,the author will try to improve the abilities both in English and Chinese.
