An Survey Of Senior High School Students Telling Chinese Traditional Culture In English

According to General Secretary Xi Jinping’s emphasis on "telling the Chinese story well" combined with the "New Curriculum Standards",English teaching should help students compare and have comments on Chinese and foreign cultures,identify with national culture on the basis of understanding cultural differences,and strengthen cultural self-confidence,so that students can take the initiative to promote and disseminate Chinese culture in English in cross-cultural exchanges.Only by understanding the current situation of students’ speaking Chinese traditional culture well in English,can we further improve the teaching design and students’ English level.This study adopts methods of both questionnaire survey and interview,and takes senior school students as the main research objects.Three questions are explored as follows,1.How is the high school students’ awareness to spread traditional Chinese culture in English?2.How is the high school students’ ability on the account of traditional Chinese culture and its connotations in English?3.What are the teaching factors that affect high school students’ account of traditional Chinese culture in English?On the basis of the survey results and related analysis,the following conclusions are made in this study.1.High school students do not have a strong awareness of disseminating traditional Chinese culture in English.2.The ability of high school students’ account of traditional Chinese culture and its connotations in English is insufficient.3.The application of teaching materials and the teacher’s cultural teaching awareness have impact on high school students’ account of traditional Chinese culture.According to the conclusions of the study,the author makes suggestions from three aspects,i.e.classroom learning,classroom teaching,and ideological and political education in classroom.
