International trade refers to exchanging goods and services between different countries(or regions). It is the main form of mutual contact between countries based on the international division of labor, reflecting the economic interdependence of all nations in the world. This interdependence requires countries to learn from each other in terms of trade policies and rules to achieve reciprocity.Given these facts, the study of the English-Chinese translation of international trade texts is of great practical significance.Payment methods and Finance in International Trade, published in 2021,is a significant book to learn about international trade in Korea, and the first four chapters of which are selected as translation materials for this translation report. The source book is one of the main reading materials in the field of international trade in Korean universities. It addresses the concepts, purposes, characteristics, and risks in international trade. All the aspects of the international trade are discussed in a systematic and comprehensive manner. In addition, the book also introduces various payment methods and financing schemes for international trade. The study of the English-Chinese translation can promote the mutual reference of international trade rules in different countries and the orderly development of international trade between countries. The main theoretical frameworks of this translation practice are Peter Newmark’s text typology and communicative translation theory. The source text of this translation practice is an economic text.According to Newmark’s division of the three types of text, the economic text is defined as an informative text based on its high practicality and text authority. The main goal of informative text is to realize the information dissemination of the text.Communicative Translation Theory not only emphasizes the retention of the original information but also attaches importance to the effect of the translation and the same understanding between the readers of the target language and the original.Translation practice is a kind of communication and conversion activity that occurs between languages. To reproduce the style of the original text and achieve the desired effect,a variety of translation skills are used in the translating process, such as paraphrase, annotation, perspective conversion, part of speech conversion, addition, omission and so forth. This translation report consists of five parts. The first chapter mainly introduces the background, significance, the source text, and the author.Chapter two describes the process of translation, including preparation, process, and proofreading after translation. The third chapter briefly introduces the theoretical basis of this translation report and the guidance of Newmark’s typology theory and translation theory to the English-Chinese translation of economic texts.Chapter four illustrates the problems encountered and the solutions adopted in the process of translation through specific case studies from lexical, syntactic and textual level.Chapter five summarizes the findings, limitations and suggestions for future translation.Hopefully, this translation report can provide a reference for the future translation of economic texts and further enlighten translation research.
