The recent trade friction between China and the United States has aroused worldwide attention to international trade. For this reason, the author chose “International Trade : From War Capital to Contracts of Distribution”,the fourth chapter of the book The Misery of International Law: Confrontations with Injustice in the Global Economy,as the translation material,to share well-known international law experts' insights on the current international trade laws. The selected chapter analyzes the evolution and development of international trade laws from various angles, clarifies their fundamental defects, and explores how to establish more equitable international trade laws to better regulate the future international trade order. Thus,it has a referential significance for China's future economic construction and trade cooperation with foreign countries. The original text was of the informative type, with a goal to convey information to readers.Accordingly, this translation practice was guided by Katharina Reiss' s Theory on Text Typology and Translation, whose principle of translating Informative texts is: the translator should, with expressions familiar to the target reader, accurately and thoroughly convey the information of the original text rather than rigidly conform to its linguistic form.In light of this principle, and also in consideration of the linguistic and cultural differences between English and Chinese, the author adopted various translation methods to solve the problems encountered in the translation process. At the lexical level, techniques such as conversion of word class, extension of word meaning and amplification were used.At the syntactical level, some of the typical techniques used were adjusting the word order of single sentences, cutting off long sentences and altering sentence voices. At the discourse level, connectives were added and sentences were regrouped to ensure coherence and cohesion.Such translation strategies can help to realize the cross-cultural communication function of the original text. This translation practice, therefore, can to a certain extent serve as a reference for the translation of informative texts on political or economic topics.
