The report is the translation of English academic papers about education.The source text of this report is excerpted from International Encyclopedia of Education,Third Edition,Volume 3.The author is responsible for the independent translation of four academic papers of the book which focus on various activities of educational assessment.The English-Chinese translation of this kind of academic papers will help with the development of education in China.During the translation process,technical terms and long and complicated sentences are considered as difficulties in this translation practice.In order to solve those difficulties and accurately transfer information of the source text,based on the characteristics of the informative text,the author takes Newmark's communicative translation as the theoretical guidance,analyzes the difficulties at lexical,syntactic and contextual levels,and discusses solutions accordingly.At the lexical level,the author mainly uses parallel texts and translation tools to ensure the accurate translation of proper nouns and technical terms in the source text.At the syntactic level,the author mainly adopts translation techniques such as conversion of passive voice,sequential translation,inversion,amplification,omission and division in order to ensure that the information of the source text is correctly transferred and that the target text conforms to the expression habits of Chinese readers.At the contextual level,the author mainly uses grammatical cohesive devices such as the reference and lexical cohesive devices such as the conjunction to make the target text be more easily accepted by Chinese readers.
