A Report On Coherence In The Translation Of Feeding The World Today And Tomorrow:The Importance Of Food Science And Technology From The Skopos Theory Perspective

To increase the health and wellness of the growing global population,food science and technology become more and more importance.This review on food science and technology not only gives the readers a comprehensive understanding of food science and technology and addresses misperceptions about processed foods but also serves as a foundational resource for public outreach.The purpose of translation determines the whole translation process.The purpose of this translation is to convey the history of food science and technology,controversies about processed foods,food processing methods and potential solutions to future challenges to Chinese readers,so the translation task is target-culture-oriented and the translator chooses Skopos Theory to guide the translation practice.This translation serves mainly to convey comprehensive information about food science and technology.In order to meet the reading needs and psychological expectations of the receivers and to make the translation coherent and readable in the target language,the translator applies Skopos Theory in which coherence rule plays the most important role to guide this translation practice.Skopos Theory and coherence rule are elaborated in this report.From the perspective of Skopos Theory,the translator demonstrates,with specific examples from the translation practice,that the coherence rule is useful in terms of semantic,cultural and logical coherence in the popular science translation.At last,the translator summarizes the gains and deficiencies in translation practice.The purpose of this report is to,from the perspective of Skopos Theory,elaborate the application of coherence rule in popular science translation so as to achieve the coherence of the target text.The author hopes it will offer help and guidance for translation practice of this type or relevant types in the future.
