With the development of international Chinese education, more and more international students come to study in China, and the number of international students with academic qualifications is increasing year by year.Academic papers are one of the necessary conditions for international students to graduate, and existing studies(Qiu Xinyi,2009;Gu Zusha,2014,Qi Hua,2006;Gao Zengxia,2016)show that there are still many problems in academic writing of international students, such as language barriers, unfamiliarity with academic paper writing rules, and insufficient scientific research ability. In the face of these problems,"the curriculum of current universities,as well as related research and textbook preparation, are inadequate"(Gao Zengxia,2016).In recent years, the research on academic Chinese writing has gradually increased, but the research angle mostly involves static analysis of texts, and the research on the development process of academic Chinese writing ability is still in its infancy. Therefore, this paper hopes to study the characteristics and influencing factors of the development of academic writing ability of Chinese as a second language by tracking the writing process of the master’s thesis,so as to provide constructive suggestions for improving the academic Chinese writing ability of the master’s degree. This study adopts a combination of quantitative and qualitative research methods, starting from the two levels of academic chapters and academic language, and examines the thesis writing texts,one-on-one semi-structured interviews and reflection logs of six students in the advanced Chinese writing course of a domestic university, summarizes the characteristics and influencing factors of the development of academic Chinese writing ability, and analyzes the improvement path of academic Chinese writing ability based on the "six factors" of activity theory.Through research, this paper expects to solve the following two questions:(1)What is the dynamic development of academic Chinese writing ability of Master’s Degree International Students? What are the features?(2)What are the factors that affect the development of academic Chinese writing ability? How is it affected? It is found that the development of academic Chinese writing ability has the following two characteristics:First, from the perspective of academic chapters:(1)Most of the masters pay attention to the importance of chapter structure in academic writing in the later stage of writing, and their chapter ability is improved.(2)There are differences in the development of chapter ability for masters with different Chinese proficiency. The structure of the high-level master’s thesis is relatively complete at the beginning of writing, and it can pay attention to the connection of chapters within the paragraph; The structure of the intermediate master’s thesis has not yet formed a complete system at the beginning of writing, and insufficient attention is paid to the cohesion of the passages within the paragraphs.(3)Some Master’s Degree International Students have paid attention to the phenomenon of certain language steps falling.Second, from the perspective of academic language:(1)In the choice of vocabulary,Master’s Degree International Students tends to choose old words rather than introduce new words, showing a cautious attitude towards word use,and individual Master’s Degree International Students shows word preference habits.(2)The syntactic complexity of Master’s Degree International Students basically showed an upward trend, while the syntactic complexity of individual Master’s Degree International Students showed a downward trend, because the method of splitting long sentences into short sentences was used to improve sentence accuracy.(3)The syntactic accuracy of Master’s Degree International Students showed an upward trend. However, the writing bias of high-level masters is mostly at the vocabulary level;Intermediate level master’s degree has not only lexical bias, but also syntactic structure bias. The six factors of activity theory "trigonometric model" have the following characteristics on different levels of academic Chinese writing ability:First,at the level of academic chapters, objects, rules, communities and adjustment tools are the main influencing factors.Second,at the level of academic language, division of labor, subject and community are the main influencing factors.Among the six factors of the"trigonometric model",the influence of teachers and teaching assistants in the community is the strongest, which can have an impact on academic chapters and academic language at the same time, and the influence of tutors and classmates is slightly weaker. Finally, from the perspective of activity theory, the improvement path of academic Chinese writing ability of Master’s Degree International Students is discussed in multiple dimensions:the subject overcomes the fear of difficulties and improves learning motivation;Establish a comprehensive and systematic cognitive system of the object, and avoid losing one over the other;Reasonably assign tasks to the roles of teachers, teaching assistants and mentors;Selection of appropriate textbooks and references;Set up reasonable teaching arrangements, etc.
