| Folklore refers to the stable cultural details gradually formed by a nation or a social group during the long course of historical life,which are also being handed down from generation to generation.The Ainu people are the unique minority group recognised by the Japanese government,and its culture is an important part according to Japan.At present,Japanese folk reading materials are popular in China,and in order to meet the needs of domestic readers to explore Japanese folklore culture,it is necessary to translate and publish relevant high qualified books.By translating the book "Ainu Folklore--Life and experience in Nibutani",the author hopes that it can both improve the author’s r translation skills also provide some reference for others to explore Japanese folk culture in China.This translation report is written based on the folklore book "Ainu Folklore--Life and experience in Nibutani" by Japanese Ainu culture researcher Shigeru Kayano.The main way of expression in this text is narration,whose characteristics are pictographic,illustrative and lyric.In addition,it tells in a vivid and life-like language.This translation work is guided by Nida ’s functional equivalence theory.It combines with the features in original text,using strategic means to emphasize the equivalence between target language and source language.Using restituting and extending to accurately convey the meaning of the words and to achieve equivalence of information;Using conversing and splitting to clear the logic of sentence and make it be read smoothly;Using adding and substituting to strengthen the expression and keep readers be indulge in the book while reading.In this translation practice,the author insists that should take theory into practice,achieving the goal of “better know what it means while know its language,better learn how it comes to be while learn how it forms”,by which the author aims to improve translation skills.During this period,the author summarized the use of each strategic means in the practice of Chinese translation,recorded the problems when doing translation,which would not only deepen the understanding of translation theory,improve the actual ability of translation skills,but also accumulate some experience in the translation on Japanese to Chinese.Based on this translation experience,the author would keep trying to translate various types of texts,so as to make a modest contribution to the cultural exchanges between China and Japan in the future. |
