| As globalization continues to advance,China’s civil aviation industry is developing rapidly and the issue of flight safety has aroused widespread concern. This report is based on the C-E translation practice of the scientific paper Simulation and Optimization of Aircraft Cabin Evacuation Strategy Based on Exit Flow Equilibrium. The source text(ST)falls into the category of informative text and mainly details the process and findings of the simulation and optimization experiment of cabin emergency evacuation strategy conducted by a domestic research team. The C-E translation of such text contributes to international technical exchanges as well as the spread of China’s advanced technological achievements in civil aviation safety to the world. In this report,in light of the characteristics of the source text(ST),the author conducts in-depth and detailed analysis at lexical, syntactic and discourse levels with case study method by combining the problems in the translation process under the guidance of Peter Newmark’s Communicative Translation Theory. At the lexical level, the author employs several translation methods including literal translation, free translation and zero translation, plus consulting dictionaries and terminology books and referring to authoritative websites, corpus and parallel texts to precisely convey the meaning of professional vocabulary of civil aviation and simulation experiment, employs substitution to equivalently replace the “de” structure in the ST and utilizes conversion to naturally change the part of speech of verbs that are used in one sentence in the ST,so as to present accurate and objective information. At the syntactic level, the author deals with sentences without subjects in the ST by applying passive voice in the target text(TT)and handles long and complicated sentences in the ST by use of division and combination in the TT,in order to render idiomatic and smooth sentences. At the discourse level, the author adjusts the discourse with explicit cohesion and reconstruction of the TT,to achieve cohesion and coherence of the translated discourse. The author finds that Newmark’s translation theory provides reliable guidance on the C-E translation practice of the scientific paper, which helps the author to employ appropriate translation skills to successfully complete the translation practice,so as to achieve the goal that target readers can obtain the information accurately while gaining as similar reading experience as possible to the source language readers. This translation practice aims to accumulate experience in the C-E translation of civil aviation safety texts and provide valuable references for more learners or translators in translating such texts in the future. |
