| Handicrafts have been a significant part of human culture since the beginning of civilization.However,in today’s rapidly developing society,the original market and living space for handicrafts are gradually diminishing.To preserve handicraft culture and skills,there has been a surge of documentary films on handicrafts.This article aims to study the application of narrative strategies in existing Chinese handicraft-themed documentary films through literature research,case analysis,and field research methods.Theoretical guidance from narratology and communication studies has been used to understand the contribution and reference significance of narrative strategies in handicraft-themed documentary films.A total of 130 documentaries on handicrafts from 2010 to 2022 were collected and analysed in terms of content,narrative strategy,production team and broadcast platform.It is found that different production teams and broadcast platforms have been enriching and expanding the content themes and narrative features of this kind of documentaries.However,there is some room for improvement,and creators need to explore more artistic forms and technical methods to enhance the promotion of documentaries.The graduation work “Xianghuo” selects Hongshan Village incense making as the recording object.The article conducts theoretical research and practical analysis of narrative strategies from the perspectives of narrative elements,narrative perspectives,narrative time and space,narrative structure,and narrative rhythm.In terms of narrative elements,selecting Rich Events to Charm Inherited Characters;In terms of narrative perspective,telling and inheriting stories through the mouths of the people;In narrative time and space,use rich sound and painting to showcase historical light and shadow;In terms of narrative structure,using a modular structure to depict the inheritance process;In terms of narrative rhythm,the spirit of craftsmanship is expressed by controlling internal rhythm,external rhythm,and auxiliary rhythm.Using different narrative strategies to highlight the profound cultural heritage of handicrafts and the emotional expression of inheritors,allowing the audience to truly immerse themselves in the film and experience the spiritual core that the creator wants to convey. |
