After the Revolution of 1911,with the promotion of the vernacular movement,the vernacular became the official written language of modern Chinese.Before that,in the last years of the Qing Dynasty,many intellectuals had tried to establish vernacular newspapers and magazines,which opened the prelude to the vernacular movement."China Vernacular Newspaper" was the oldest and most influential newspaper among the vernacular newspapers in the late Qing Dynasty.The language is easy to understand and has high corpus research value.This paper selects "China Vernacular Newspaper" for research,and strives to describe its vocabulary in a comprehensive and objective manner.On this basis,it further explores its vocabulary characteristics,in order to provide a reference for vocabulary research in newspapers in the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China.The main content of this paper is mainly divided into three parts:The first part describes the general vocabulary of the "China Vernacular Newspaper".The corpus of "China Vernacular Newspaper" was established.After word segmentation and tagging of the text,the vocabulary of "China Vernacular Newspaper" was generated.The number of words was 15,157 and the total number of words was 230,592.From the perspective of vocabulary composition,the vocabulary of "China Vernacular Newspaper" mainly consists of nouns,verbs and adjectives.From the perspective of syllables,the number of disyllabic words is the largest.From the perspective of word frequency distribution,high-frequency words have the largest number of verbs,followed by nouns;Middle frequency words and low frequency words are mainly nouns,verbs and adjectives.By sorting out the word list of "China Vernacular Newspaper",we find that,from the perspective of word form,there are a certain number of neologism and synonyms in reverse order.From the perspective of word use style,"China Vernacular Newspaper" has a strong and prominent oral style,but retains certain classical Chinese characteristics.We analyze them in the third,fourth and fifth chapters respectively.The second part explores the characteristic word structure form in the transition from ancient vernacular to modern vernacular written language,mainly the neologism and synonyms in reverse order.In the third chapter,we first define the neologism and expressions in the "China Vernacular Newspaper",and screen and verify the neologism and expressions in combination with dictionaries such as the "Chinese Dictionary","Etymology of Modern Chinese" and the Chinese electronic literature database of the Taiwan Central Research Institute;Then,it describes and analyzes its types from the perspective of form characteristics and meaning content,and investigates its presence in modern Chinese.The fourth chapter is the synonyms with the same morpheme in reverse order of the "China Vernacular Newspaper" On the basis of previous studies,this paper defines and screens 52 groups of corpora,and discusses the origin of the synonyms with the same morphemes in reverse order by taking the generation period of the synonyms with the same morphemes in reverse order as the starting point;Combined with "Modern Chinese Dictionary"(7th Edition)and corpus,this paper investigates the existence and death of homomorpheme reverse order synonyms in modern Chinese.The third part analyzes in detail the situation that the "China Vernacular Newspaper" has a strong and prominent oral style but retains certain characteristics of classical Chinese.In the fifth chapter,we will conduct a research on the classical and vernacular combination and expressions in the closed and functional parts of speech,such as the most representative pronouns,prepositions,conjunctions,and auxiliary words.We will compare the frequency levels of all words in the four parts of speech of "China Vernacular Newspaper" with the frequency levels of words in the typical "modern Chinese" level reflected in the "Common vocabulary list of Modern Chinese"(2nd edition),and investigate its use in modern Chinese. |
