In this paper,a case study is carried out in the vernacular vocabulary of Wuxi Vernacular Newspaper,which belongs to the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China.The period is the transitional time between the Early Mandarin Chinese and the Modern Chinese.As one of the earliest and most authentic vernacular newspapers in modern history of China,the language of Wuxi Vernacular Newspaper is representative and easy to understand.Take the research methods of statistical linguistics for reference,research on the vernacular vocabulary of Wuxi Vernacular Newspaper is of great significance,reflecting in: providing material for the study of vernacular vocabulary,providing a direct basis for the study of modern Chinese,providing documentary evidence for the compilation of dictionaries.The full text is divided into five parts:The introduction introduces the reason,the significance and research methods of this topic,summarizes the research status of the newspaper in late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China.The first chapter is the study of the new words in the Wuxi Vernacular Newspaper and its value to the compilation of the Chinese Dictionary.The Chinese Dictionary has been included many vernacular words in Wuxi Vernacular Newspaper,but there are also examples of dictionary lost and late and not cited.Wuxi Vernacular Newspaper is helpful in the supplementary entry,illustration and advance era documentary.Then,it summarizes the characteristics of the new vernacular words in Wuxi Vernacular Newspaper,that is,the real time,the times,the heterogeneity and the characteristics of ethnic groups.The second chapter in the double tone degree of the Wuxi Vernacular Newspaper.In the research,from the aspects of the monosyllabic words chapter distribution,grammatical distribution,synonymous monosyllabic and disyllabic words and monosyllabic words in Modern Chinese comparative development use and so on.Then it explains the double tone degree of the late Qing dynasty.Finally,double tone degree of vernacular vocabulary of the Wuxi Vernacular Newspaper is obvious,but some is still relatively active.Reason ofdisyllablization level slightly lower than the Modern Chinese,may be early vernacular newspaper publication background,stylistic features and influence of dialect vocabulary.The third chapter focuses on the inverse morphemes words in Wuxi Vernacular Newspaper.First,it descripts the outline of Wuxi Vernacular Newspaper.Then focus on part of speech,meaning and structure analysis of two sequence inversemorphemes words.Then,based on the quantitative analysis of statistics,anlyses inversemorphemes words' appearence in the text and usage in Modern Chinese.Finally,it investigates the characteristics of unidirectional inversemorphemes words and its development in modern chinese.The conclusion summarizes the full text,and further reveals the special position of the Wuxi Vernacular Newspaper in the study of the vernacular vocabulary in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China,and the important role in the study of Chinese history.Vernacular vocabulary of the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China is still a field to be developed,the connection of the Early Mandarin Chinese and the Modern Chinese,can present a more intuitive phenomenon to us.It is hoped that through the study of this paper,the academic circles have realized the importance of the vernacular vocabulary in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of china.Therefore,a more thorough and systematic study will be carried out.
