Hangzhou Vernacular Newspaper was an vernacular issue in the late Qing Dynasty,whichwas published in a wide area with large circulation,long time of Journalism and greatinfluence.The vocabularies in Hangzhou Vernacular Newspaper have the distinct characteristicsof the times and a corpus research value. Besides the parts of Introduction and Conclusion, thisthesis is divided into four chapters.Introduction mainly discusses the research status andresearch methods and the significance of this topic. The first chapter is “the study on newvernacular words in Hangzhou Vernacular Newspaper”,which sums up the types of newspapervernacular words from two perspectives which are the new created words and new phrases.Onthe basis of the full description of all types,it summarizes the characteristics of the vernacularwords in the newspaper.These characteristics are ethnic group, immediate point, variability andtransient. The second chapter is “the study on the words which have the same morphemes andreverse orders of Hangzhou Vernacular Newspaper”.Firstly, it carries on the quantitativeinvestigation of reverse words from the perspectives of two orders co-occurrence and only oneorde.Secondly, the qualitative investigation are carried from the structure, meaning and the partof speech.Finally,it discusses the development of reverse words in modern Chinese through thestatistics of the reverse words in The Modern Chinese Dictionary and The Great ChineseDictionary. The third chapter is“the study on the degree of disyllablization in HangzhouVernacular Newspaper”. First, it investigates the distribution of monosyllabic words and thedouble syllable words in the discourse.Then it investigates the distribution of the monosyllabicwords in parts of speech.The analysis shows that monosyllabic words can appear inverbs,nouns, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions, conjunctions. Among them, the three notionalwords in the front are frequent. On this basis, the monosyllabic words and double syllablewords are compared, and monosyllabic words are compared in Hangzhou VernacularNewspaper and modern Chinese.It points out that the disyllabic degree was not high at thattime. The fourth chapter is the study on the redundancy phenomenon of the vernacularvocabularies in Hangzhou Vernacular Newspaper. First, it defines the redundant form.Then theredundant forms are described by the classification.Redundancy can appear in the beginning,themiddle and the end of the redundant forms. On the basis of the full description, this part sumsup the characteristics of the vernacular redundancy phenomenon of Hangzhou VernacularNewspaper. The part of conclusion summarizes the above, and puts forward the insufficiency ofthis thesis.
