| As the social environment is changing rapidly, many geographic environments are changing due to natural or man-made factors, and the traditional culture and memory associated with them are gradually being affected, many of the social memories that exist in records are slowly entering a stage of decline and facing the problem of being lost in time.As a type of documentary that takes human beings and nature as its main objects of expression, human geography documentaries combine geographical environments and cultural wonders with human survival and development, and disseminate them through different perspectives, amplifying and reconstructing social memories to a certain extent, reflecting social issues and carrying social memories while highlighting the objects of expression. Therefore, for human geography documentaries, how to effectively express social memory through images is the focus of this thesis. With the help of social memory theory and art symbol theory, combined with my own practical experience and relevant examples, this thesis analyzes the image expression of social memory in human geography documentaries.Through the documentary of human geography, regional culture is conveyed, and then the dominant value of social memory related issues is discussed. The thesis is divided into five parts to study the image expression of social memory in human geography documentaries. In the first chapter, the theoretical definition of the concepts of "human geography documentary" and "social memory" is presented, and through the addition of relevant materials, the research on these two aspects is sorted out, thus laying the foundation for the rest of the study.;In addition, the theory of social memory and Susan Lange art symbol theory are taken as the theoretical basis to make the theoretical foundation for the overall content. The second chapter examines the four types of visual symbols contained in documentaries: architecture, people, ritual and myth. For social memory, architecture,as a dependent carrier, serves to perpetuate the spirit of the past and recall historical memory;people,as information carriers, are witnesses to the changes of the times and bearers of memory;rituals,as transmission carriers, help the public to understand the relevant regional culture and local humanistic memory in practice.Myths,as spiritual carriers, describe the real world in a special form so as to understand the legendary memories involved behind them. The third chapter analyses social memory in relation to spatial elements, firstly by bringing about the presentation of memory through spatial scene transformation and documenting the evolution of social memory.Secondly, social memory is extended from three aspects: public space, individual space and liminal space.Through public space, social memory is universally perceived, and the behavioural patterns of the public are placed in the real social space;through individual space, individual memory is internally excavated, and the inner connection between individual space and memory is analysed;through liminal space, social memory is supplemented, and memory is combined with survival to improve social space. Finally,in the process of spatial narrative, the impact of the development of social memory on the past and future is explored, and the different memory perceptions brought about by the image space are felt.Chapter 4 presents an audio-visual construction of the representation of social memory in human geography documentaries through the analysis of visual and aural elements. When analysing the visual elements, the various perspectives in the language of the camera provide different visual perceptions of the human geography content, the editing process highlights the overall logic of the creator, and special techniques such as aerial photography and time-lapse filming bring different visual effects. In addition, light and colour play an important role in adding ambience, enriching the image space and conveying aesthetic feelings.Among the sound elements, simultaneous sound is synchronised with the images to convey the memory content;narration explains the images and deepens the memory space;music sets the mood and promotes the emotional memory;sound blends with the image environment to create a temporal memory.Through specific narrative elements, the content of social memory expressed in the documentary is presented, enabling the audience to gain an intuitive aesthetic experience. The fifth chapter analyses the value of the visual expression of social memory, looking at the impact of human geography video transmission on three main aspects: individual memory, collective memory and cultural awareness. For the individual, the transmission of images creates a strong sense of self-awareness among differentiated viewers;for the collective, the formation of group consensus supports the construction of social memory, and similar social experiences and spiritual influences enhance social consensus. At the same time, the transmission of social memory plays an important role in cultural transmission and social responsibility, with a focus on the impact of social memory on the public and on culture itself. In general,as an important cultural communication mode, the creation of human geography documentaries provides media support for the image construction of social memory, expands the space of memory transmission, and has the prospect of in-depth research. |
