Chinese modern female writers have attracted the attention of the academic circle and entered the writing of literary history because of their rich and unique literary creation. How to write modern female writers is an important issue that literary historians of all periods have to face.Due to the influence of some factors such as the context of the times and literary trends, modern female writers have a complex and unique evolution in the writing of literary history, showing a variety of faces. Therefore, the shaping and evolution of modern female writers in the history of literature should become an important topic in the study of modern literature. This paper takes the literary pedigree of modern female writers constructed by the history of modern Chinese literature as the research object, and selects the May Fourth female writers,Ding Ling,Xiao Hong and Eileen Chang who are mainly discussed in the history of literature as the starting point. On the basis of careful reading of the history of literature, this paper compares and summarizes the differences in the history of literature in different periods, examines the evolution of the history of literature on the writing of modern female writers, and explores the cultural context and operation mechanism behind the evolution of writing. The main part of the thesis is discussed from the following five aspects :The shaping and evolution of May Fourth female writers in the writing of literary history. The literary history in the 1930 s has recognized the personalized emotional expression in the works of the May Fourth female writers, paid attention to exploring the creative techniques of the works, and gave the May Fourth female writers a high evaluation from the perspective of human literature. The literary history in the early 1950 s changed the evaluation of the works of the May Fourth female writers, paying more attention to the evaluation of the works from the perspective of the social value of literature, but ignoring the value of personal emotional expression.Under the influence of this evaluation model, the literary history of the late 1950 s and 1960 s significantly weakened the number of May Fourth female writers, and even used it as a target for criticism. The evaluation model of literary history since the new period has been readjusted. The May Fourth female writers once again received the attention of literary history.Among them,Bing Xin ’s " philosophy of love " was renamed and no longer added negative evaluation unrelated to literature. The shaping and evolution of Ding Ling in literary history.Ding Ling embodies the multiple symbols of enlightenment and revolution in China in the 20 th century. The literary history of the 1930 s began to pay attention to the "disease of The Times" in Ding Ling’s works and the transformation of her creation. The literary history of the 1950 s continued this evaluation model, and the compilation of literary history was closely related to social politics.Later,Ding Ling was accused of being "out of touch with the masses" as she was rejected on the political line, and her works were positioned as anti-party articles. After the new period, the literary history of Ding Ling’s writing gradually returned to the artistic, and gave her a high evaluation. The psychological description technique used in Ding Ling’s works has attracted the attention and research of many historical works. Many historical works hold that Ding Ling’s emergence is epoch-making significance, claiming that she is not only a writer who is good at writing about women after the May 4th Movement, but also a writer with strong female consciousness, and a pioneer of Chinese feminist literature in the 20 th century. The shaping and evolution of Xiao Hong in literary history.Xiao Hong was famous in the literary world in the 1930 s for her work Fields of Life and Death, but it was not officially written in literary history until after the founding of the People’s Republic of China. In the1950 s,the literary history selectively quoted Lu Xun and other famous writers to comment on Xiao Hong’s works, deliberately strengthening Xiao Hong’s identity as a "left-wing writer" and "anti-Japanese writer".This positioning made Xiao Hong’s later works degraded. The Field of Life and Death, which reflects the anti-Japanese theme,is regarded as Xiao Hong’s representative work in the literature history of the 1950 s,while Tales of Hulan River, which embodies Xiao Hong’s "lonely" emotion,is regarded as a downhill work.In 1975,Sima Changfeng’s History of Chinese New Literature, published in Hong Kong, examined Xiao Hong’s creation from the perspective of pure literature and highly appraised Tales of Hulan River. After the new period, the literary history began to comprehensively review Xiao Hong’s life and creation, and pay attention to Xiao Hong’s unique talent and artistic achievements. Some literary history praised Xiao Hong as "Luo God of literature" and "genius writer".Some of the literary history absorbed the feminist literary criticism theory, and explained Xiao Hong’s works and life experience with it,writing another side of the history of literature has not paid attention to before. The shaping and evolution of Eileen Chang in the writing of literary history.Due to the special social environment and the writer ’s personal reasons,in the 1950-1970 s,the history of literature in the mainland did not record Eileen Chang. In contrast,C.T.Hsia ’s History of Modern Chinese Fiction published overseas in the 1960 s praised Eileen Chang ’s literary achievements.C.T.Hsia ’s views greatly influenced the acceptance and writing of Eileen Chang in the history of mainland literature after the new period.By the 1980 s,mainland literary historians began to pay attention to Eileen Chang. They recognized Eileen Chang ’s delicate psychological description, the skillful use of traditional culture and the vivid description of Shanghai sheep farm.At the same time, they also pointed out that Eileen Chang is deficient in tastefulness." In the 1990 s,with the deepening of research, the literary history made a more comprehensive affirmation of the artistic achievements of Eileen Chang ’s works. Many literary histories recognized the status of Eileen Chang ’s classic writers and believed that Eileen Chang had become ’ a leap in the development of Chinese literature in the 20 th century to this period ’.The debate on the gains and losses of modern female writers shaping in the writing of literary history. The compilation of literary history cannot be separated from the context of The Times, which affects the generation of the view of literary history. The three history-making movements of modern literature were all formed in different cultural contexts,so the views of literary history in each period were quite different, which resulted in the evolution of the writing of modern female writers in literary history. In literary history, the influential opinions of famous writers are regarded as discourse resources for writing modern female writers. However, whether the opinions are used or selectively quoted, the purpose is to highlight the literary characteristics of a certain aspect of modern female writers and shaping the image of writers in line with the cultural context at that time.C.T.Hsia’s History of Modern Chinese Fiction and Sima Changfeng’s History of New Chinese Literature published outside China have a great difference from the literature history of the same period in Chinese mainland in writing modern female writers with the view of aesthetics as the first. The literary value of modern female writers is constantly explored and deepened in the collision and fusion of different studies, among which several female writers with high achievements eventually become classics.
