As China develops to the center of the world stage, the international community is increasingly interested in the development of Chinese history. The material for this translation practice is White Lotus Rebels and South China Pirates: Crisis and Reform in the Qing Empire by the famous Chinese historian Wang Wensheng, with a total of 14,000 words. The text mainly describes the uprising of some civil groups during the reign of Qianlong-Jiaqing,the measures taken by the Qing Court,as well as the emperor-bureaucracy relationship between the inner court and the outer court. The translation helps the Chinese historical community to better focus on the particular historical period of the Qianlong-Jiaqing and understand the profound influence of the White Lotus and pirates on the society of that time from different angles.Guided by the eco-translatology,the report combined with examples of translation practice, discussing how to solve the key points and difficulties in historical translation. The translation method of eco-translatology is “multi-dimension transformation”,which involves transformations from linguistic dimension, cultural dimension and communicative dimension. This report mainly uses the “three-dimension” transformation of eco-translatology to guide the translation process of the Chinese practical translation of White Lotus Rebels and South China Pirates: Crisis and Reform in the Qing Empire.First of all,it introduces the translator’s preparation, the translation process, the case analysis under the guidance of translation theory and conclusions. In terms of linguistic dimension, the translator transforms derogatory words, polysemous words, passive voice and complex sentences from English to Chinese to make the translation conform to the expression habits of Chinese. In terms of cultural dimension, the translator adopts domestication and foreignization strategies to translate flexibly. In terms of communicative dimension, the translator achieves the selective transformation of communicative intentions to maintain the ecological equilibrium between the original text and the target text by finding out cohesion in discourse and aesthetic effect, and adopting translation skills such as reiteration, adjusting word order and four-character structure. The translation of historical materials needs to consider the differences between Chinese and English cultures, and the “three-dimension transformation” is to analyze the materials from the perspective of language, culture and communication, which provides a new theoretical perspective and guidance for the translation of historical materials.
