Following the author’s footsteps, not only can we appreciate the appearances of the cities, but also explore the civilization hidden behind it. Therefore, the book stands out among tourist books and the thesis, accordingly, has chosen it as the source text—to enable more people to get acquainted with this book and to improve the quality of their tourist activities in a way.Guided by the eco-translatology put forward by Professor Hu Gengshen, the thesis applies its three-dimension transformation translation strategies to doing the English-Chinese translation of The Cities Book, with a purpose of exploring the practicality of this theory in translating tourism texts. The case study in Chapter Four has listed several tricky problems in the translation process and the way to solve them through three-dimension transformation.Through the case study, this thesis has found out that three-dimension transformation strategies in the eco-translatology are instructive in translating tourism texts. To be specific, cultural dimension transformation can be employed to supplement the information so that readers are able to absorb the general and historical knowledge; linguistic dimension transformation can be used to improve the adaptability of the language form; in addition, communicative dimension transformation can enhance the building of a bridge between readers and the author to better serve the communicative purpose of tourism texts. |
