As a unique art form,ukiyo-e not only showcases the culture and style of Japanese society during the Edo period, but also serves as an important means of self-expression and idea communication for artists.Katsushika Hokusai, one of the most outstanding ukiyo-e artists, not only represents the cultural essence of the society at that time, but also creates a distinctive artistic form with unique innovations in composition and color application.Especially,he creatively used the unique color "Hokusai blue" to give the picture a vivid visual effect and strong expressive power, becoming a unique symbol of Hokusai’s works. He also cleverly used the cropping composition to organically combine the theme and background in the picture, achieving a harmonious artistic effect. These innovative artistic techniques were highly recognized at that time, and also provided rich inspiration and reference for later painting artists. This article aims to conduct an in-depth analysis of Katsushika Hokusai’s painting composition art, exploring the artistic ideas and techniques behind his representative works through deep interpretation. The article mainly analyzes from two aspects: cropping composition and unique decorative formal aesthetics.Hokusai used the cropping composition to depict small selected objects and incomplete scenes, which not only had a unique style, but also highlighted the tension and attraction of the picture. At the same time, his unique decorative formal aesthetics are reflected in the clever layout of the black and white relationship in the picture, the flat lines, and the elegant colors. These details reflect Hokusai’s deep exploration and continuous exploration of formal aesthetics in art, making his works highly respected in the painting world at that time, and also providing rich inspiration and reference for later painting artists.Through the study of Hokusai’s artistic form and style,we can better understand the artistic achievements of Japanese culture in the Edo period, and also provide rich ideas and inspiration for my own creation. In my creation,I constantly explore the expression forms of Hokusai’s artistic language, starting from the structure of the picture’s black, white, and gray, lines, color brightness contrast, color temperature contrast, and density contrast,to better express my understanding of the theme and emotional expression.I gradually formed my own artistic style and expression methods, making my works more brilliant and profound.
